Supply Pick Up and NWEA – Friday

Hello families,

This Friday is going to be a busy day as we are double booked.

Friday AM – Students will be taking the NWEA. If you have not done so already, please check the PopUp blocker on your child’s computer. I emailed directions yesterday and I uploaded a video into the parent folder on Schoology. Administering a standardized test to 28 2nd graders is going to be hard enough. Having to walk a 2nd grader though a PopUp blocker seems like an impossible feat. It would help me out so much if you do this before Friday morning. Thanks!!!

Friday PM– We will be distributing 2nd grade required materials. Thank you for your patience as we have gathered more supplies and are ready for the next distribution.  The schedule for supply pick up as follows:

5th – 9-10

4th 10-11

3rd 11-12

2nd 12-1

1st 1-2

KDG 2-3
Please make sure to come at the correct time for the materials. We understand you may have to come twice, but we are trying to avoid the 2 hour wait that happened during Chromebook Pick up. Please only ask for the specific grade materials when you come.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Half Day – RazKids

Today was a half day so I dismissed students earlier than usual.

Their only task today is to take the placement test on RazKids. They can do this by logging into RazKids. As soon as they login, have them click the middle of the screen <Reading>. Then, the robot will ask them to answer a few questions. Please let them do this independently with no help. This will help us to find them the best fitting books and so that I know where they are starting this year off, reading wise.

If you need help logging into RazKids, please scroll down to September 11th. I have all the information for logging in on that blog post.

Thanks! And, have a great weekend!

Important Information

This afternoon, your child will not come back to Zoom after lunch.

Instead, he/she will log into Schoology and work in their Thursday folder. In their Thursday folder is another folder called “Recorded Lesson for SEL.” This is their afternoon lesson. They are to watch the prerecorded lessons and complete the assignment.

In order to receive a Present for attendance, students will have to turn in their assignment before midnight tonight.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. However, I will be working with students during this time and may not be able to respond back right away.

Also, today’s special is Technology.

Tomorrow afternoon students have 2 specials – Art and Music.

Their Art special will be not be live but you can find it on Schoology. The art teacher’s email address is: durants@dearbornschools.org

Raz-Kids

Hi Parents,
https://www.kidsa-z.com/main/Login

We are going to be using Raz-Kids for a reading resources in 2nd grade. This is a resource we will be using throughout the year. At any time students can log in and read on Raz-Kids. At first, it will give them a designated level based on how they do with the placement quiz. These levels will not be permanent as there are many factors that can affect this. Once I test all students on their reading levels, I will adjust their levels on Raz-Kids. Once they have a level, they should be able to read almost all of the words on their own. In order for them to grow as readers, they need to be reading books at their level. If the books are too hard or too easy to read, it will hinder reading growth.

Feel free to communicate with me if you are noticing that the books are too easy or too hard for your child at first, while I don’t have their level data yet. I can adjust any reading level.

You may also request parent access by clicking the green parent button in the top right corner on the Raz-Kids page.

The teacher’s username is nalzaharnah. Their password is a watermelon picture.

I’m hoping that this afternoon/weekend you are able to help log your student in and bookmark it so it is easily available for them to work in on a daily basis.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
