In Language Arts today the students learned about the pyramid of action.  We discussed the five areas of the pyramid of action, what they mean, and putting events in a story in sequential order.

The students also spent time organizing their reading and writing interactive notebooks.  I checked the reading notebooks today since most of our work from this unit has taken place in our writing notebooks.  I will be collecting these for grading tomorrow.

Lastly, the students created a master word list of words they do not know for the story, The School Play.  We will be creating our next interactive word wall tomorrow.

Have a great evening!

Homework:

  1. Read for 20 minutes
  2. Finish organizing your Writing Interactive Notebook

In Language Arts today the students continued to learn about story vocabulary.  They practiced identifying different elements of story vocabulary using the text, Little Red Riding Hood.

The students also read their article of the week.  We then got into a circle and discussed whether or not it is appropriate for movie characters to be portrayed by actors who have the same cultural background the characters do. The students were then assigned their CER response that corresponds with the article.  This assignment will be due on Monday and it will be the first grade on the new marking period.

Lastly, the students worked with the other people at their table to create a master word list from the story, The School Play.

Have a great evening!

Welcome back!

In Language Arts today the students were given their article of the week.  Today they focused on identifying and reading the text features to predict what the article is going to be about.

The students also began to learn about story vocabulary.  At this point in the year, our primary focus will be learning about elements of a fictional story.

Lastly, the students spent time hovering for words they do not know in the story, The School Play.  We will be reading this story later on in the week.

The end of the 2nd marking is this Friday.  All late work was due last Tuesday, November 22nd.  At this point, the only assignment I will be accepting is the argumentative essay. I have graded 4th hour’s essays and I will have the rest done by the end of the week.  I would encourage all families to check student/parent connect to see where students are at in their classes for the marking. If families are concerned or have questions, please have a conversation with your child prior to emailing the teacher.  We are happy to help but at Bryant, we encourage the students to advocate for themselves.  This means being held accountable for their missing or late assignments.  This also builds responsibility and organization skills within the children.

Have a great evening!

Homework:

  1. Read for 20 minutes

AOTW Question: Should athletes be allowed to protest the national anthem before sporting events?

Athletes should/should not be allowed to protest the national anthem. They should/should not be allowed to do this because explain why this should/should not be allowed. The text specifically states, “give a direct quote to support your thinking.” (pg. #) This evidence supports my claim because explain how your evidence supports your claim by being specific about what your evidence states and how it supports your claim.
