Students were given a review packet today in class. It would be best for students to preview the problems at home tonight so they may ask questions tomorrow in class. This review packet is a good study guide for the test on Thursday.

4th Marking Period Ends Soon
Parents and Students,
The fourth marking period is quickly winding down, and teachers must submit their grades next week! If you have any missing work, make sure you turn it in as soon as possible.
Bring Phones to Class on Tuesday, March 1st
Parents and Students,
If you have a cell phone, tablet, or any other portable device that is wifi capable, please bring it to class with you on Tuesday. We will be using them to play a review game through kahoot.it to prepare for our upcoming unit test. The more devices we can bring to class, the better our participation will be. Students will still need to keep their devices power off and put away before and after class. Thanks!
Mr. Zimmer
Upcoming Unit Test
Students and Parents,
There will be a unit test next week in 7th grade math. It will cover everything we have learned together since my arrival in January. The exact date will depend on how much review we need and whether or now we have a snow day tomorrow. I will keep the classes updated, and at this point Tuesday or Wednesday are most likely. More details to come soon!
Need Extra Practice? Just Google Search!
Do you or your student need some extra practice? Try using what’s available on the internet. In 7th grade math we are currently working on several types of problems that require frequent decimal multiplication. A quick Google search yielded the following results.
Any of the first five results are great places to find practice problems! Some are electronic, and some link to copies of worksheets.
Don’t forget, every student is familiar with Khan Academy, so this is probably the easiest resource. Also, IXL.com has a similar set-up, but does not require registration simply for extra practice problems. Both resources will also assist students in correcting their errors. Have fun become well-practice mathematicians!
Parent Connect
To all concerned students and adults,
I’d like to apologize for not resolving this sooner, but Parent Connect is finally updated and should display the current term for this class. Unbeknownst to myself, the default setting when I took over the grade book from Mrs. Bittner was set to display 2nd marking period. However, everything now should be fixed and current.
I make it a priority to input student grades as soon as assignments are complete, so you should see new grades appearing in Parent Connect regularly. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you discover any further difficulties.
Quiz on Monday!!!
Don’t forget, there is a quiz coming up on Monday, February 8th. Instead of watching the Broncos destroy the Panthers, maybe you should think about reviewing the material we have covered together in class so far. All of our notes, foldables, worksheets, and homework assignments would be good items to review. The quiz will cover everything we have learned about expressions and equations since I arrived.
Have a great weekend!

Don’t forget, the back page needs to get signed and returned!
Mr. Zimmer Introduction Letter
O. L. Smith Parent Introduction Letter
Dear O. L. Smith Parents and Community Members,
Hi, my name is Nick Zimmer. I am your child’s new math teacher. I am very excited to join the O. L. Smith family, and I cannot wait to lead students on an exciting and challenging mathematical journey.
I graduated from Western Michigan University in 2009 with a degree in Elementary Education. My subject area minors are in Mathematics and English Language Arts. After finishing undergraduate schooling my wife and I traveled to Colorado so she could attend graduate school to become a Physician Assistant. During that time I spent three years teaching middle school math at North Middle School in Aurora, Colorado. I also served as a soccer coach, basketball coach, and snowboard club sponsor. When my wife finished her graduate degree in 2012 we moved back to Michigan, and since then I have been teaching middle school math at Holbrook School in Hamtramck.
For the past six years I have been working to become a well-rounded educator who is able to develop strong relationships with students and be a content area expert. I have spent considerable time developing a student centered classroom that focuses on peer-to-peer interactions as well as drawing from students’ collective knowledge base. I hope to get to know your child well so he or she will feel comfortable frequently speaking with myself and other class members about mathematics. Most of all, I will work tirelessly to make the classroom an environment where learners can feel success through math education.
Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about me. I hope to meet you in person quite soon. Please feel free to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns at (313) 827-2800 or at zimmern@dearbornschools.org. I am certain that this school year will conclude on a high note, and go Vikings!
