100th Day of School Celebration

Help us celebrate River Oaks Elementary 100th Day of School

Tuesday, February 12, 2019

Please help your child dress up as an old person. Join in the celebration of 100 days of school. Staff and students are encouraged to dress up. You can put some powder in your hair to make it gray for the day. Some ideas could be wearing a wig or a dress, apron, suit, tie and old pair of glasses. Last year we had a lot of students dress up.

Recycled Materials Needed:

Hello Families of River Oaks Students!

Our third grade classes are making Arcade Games out of cardboard and recycled materials.  We are in the planning stage right now, but we are in need of supplies and are wondering if any of you have stuff we can use.  Nothing needs to be new, we are trying to use things that would otherwise be thrown out or recycled!  If you have things like:  cardboard tubes- a variety of sizes are needed, clothespins, thick paper plates, solo cups, large boxes, Popsicle sticks and/or tongue depressors, clean soup or vegetable cans, dowels, ping pong balls, small balls- soft….. We are in NEED!  Items can be dropped off to the art room.  Our students are making this Arcade to coincide with a district initiative to provide a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) experience at every school.  Our big opening will be in May.  Please look for more information to come AND thanks in advance for helping out with our request!

The River Oaks third grade students will be working on a STEAM Project that will be showcased in May.  We are in need of cardboard boxes, tubes, plastic tops and interesting packaging to make our ideas come to life.  If you have any donations PLEASE send them to the art room!  Watch for upcoming news on this cool endeavor!

Trustees recognized during Board Appreciation MonthSchool board smaller 2019

As part of School Board Recognition Month, Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko took time at the January 14, 2019 School Board meeting to thank the Trustees for their service to the community.

“School Board Trustees dedicate a lot of time sharing their expertise to benefit the students and families of our district.  They are very knowledgeable about the workings of our district and the latest issues impacting education.  As superintendent, I truly appreciate the diversity of experience and professionalism our trustees bring to the table,” commented Maleyko.

School Board members in Dearborn develop policies and make tough decisions that help shape the future of instruction in the district. They bear responsibility for the third largest district in Michigan with an annual budget of more than $200 million, an enrollment of 21,000 students, and 2,600 employees working in 34 buildings.

In addition, Dearborn School Board trustees also serve as trustees for Henry Ford College. They are the only school board trustees in the state that also serve as trustees for a local college.  This dual responsibility means trustees spend twice the amount of time dedicated to serving the community.   They evaluate both the superintendent and college president, attend twice the number of meetings, and must keep abreast of issues, laws, and legislation impacting both P-12 and the college.
