Make A Wish Foundation Pumpkin Fundraising coming soon!

Make A Wish Foundation Pumpkin Fundraising coming soon!

The Snow Staff will decorate small pie pumpkins for a very worthy cause!  Pumpkins will be displayed in the lobby showcases.   They will be on display on October 21 with NO ticket sales.  Ticket sales will start on Thursday, October 22 and run through Thursday, October 29.  Pumpkins will go home with the winners on Friday, October 30.  Tickets will be on sale in the morning before school- in the lobby- or from me in the art room.  We have done this the last three years and have generated a nice donation to Make A Wish.  Not everyone wins a pumpkin, but every one that buys a ticket helps a charity provide a wonderful experience for a child in need of something special.  Many thanks for your participation!

Mask Making and parade opportunity at Masonic Temple

Mask Making and parade opportunity at Masonic Temple
Cranbrook’s current exhibiting artist Nick Cave is having his final performance this weekend at The Masonic Temple on Sunday, October 4th. We are looking for children to participate in a mask making workshop and then join the performers in a parade at 4:00 that day.
I know it’s short notice, but we had a few schools cancel on us recently and I was wondering if any of the elementary art teachers in your district would be interested enough to share this with their students. We were shooting for classes to come together, but individual or small groups of children are welcome too!

ART Club and City Beautiful/STAND NEWS!!!

ART Club and City Beautiful/STAND NEWS!!!

There will be a clip board outside the art room, starting Monday, October 5th, for students to sign up for ART Club and City Beautiful/STAND.  Please have your student sign up on the appropriate board if they are interested in participating in either club.  City Beautiful/STAND will take place after school on Tuesdays, from 3:40-4:30, and Art Club will run on Fridays after school from 3:40-4:30.  Chess Club operates on Tuesdays AND Thursdays and I am not at Snow on Wednesdays this year, so the choices are very limited.  Monday is a meeting day for staff members.  Both are clubs that can flexibly accommodate students.  My biggest concern is numbers for Art Club.  I will pick the students this year from those that sign up.  I will be looking for students with some talent and that have a real interest in art.  I am not sure how it will be set up due to not knowing numbers at this point.  It could be by semester or possibly every other week.  Please check back for updated information.  I will be looking at the numbers at the end of next week, after the 9th,  to make a determination.  Many thanks!

Short week coming up!

Short week coming up!

Hello!  Seems like we just get started and then we are off for a few days.  I have only seen the early elementary classes once, twice if I have been lucky.  Next week with school only taking place on Monday and Tuesday, I will miss many classes.  Rest assured we will get moving in the art room soon and the year will settle in to a good pace.  Please check back for upcoming news, photos and ideas for kids to “get art-y” outside of school!  Enjoy the holiday break!
