A Very GOREY Family Day at
Cranbrook Art Museum on October 22

Please join us on Saturday, October 22, from 11am – 3pm, for A Very Gorey Family Day at Cranbrook Art Museum! All activities will celebrate the illustrations of Edward Gorey.

Our current exhibition, Unsettled: The Work of Edward Gorey features many of the artist’s famed publications, including elaborately-designed artists’ books and assorted Gorey ephemera and memorabilia.

Museum educators will be on hand to help create Gorey-inspired artwork, just in time for the Halloween season!
Peer through Tunnel Calamity, Edward Gorey’s accordion book, and create your own collapsible book.
Sketch characters and masks learning Gorey’s shading and hatching techniques.
Set the stage with your creations, like the foldout miniatures seen in Dracula: A Toy Theatre.
Hear and see Gorey’s books read aloud in our mini-projection room.
All ages are welcome and activities are free with Museum admission. Children 12 and under are always free.

Needed Items!!

Needed Items!!

I am looking for some things for art and STEAM: paper towel, toilet paper and wrapping paper tubes, plastic tops from water bottles, soda bottles, juice bottles, etc. A variety of colors and sizes is what I am after. I am also looking for small, clean yogurt containers for water and or mixing paint. I will take most anything for the art room. If you have items listed or have other things you think I might “like”, please email me or ask when you see me. Many thanks!

WELCOME BACK!

WELCOME BACK!

Hard to believe summer is over and we are all starting back up at school! I look forward to seeing everyone and meeting our new students at Snow. As it stands right now, I will be at Snow 4 1/2 days a week- I will be at Maples Elementary School on Thursday afternoons. We are scheduled in for 6 sections of S.T.E.A.M.- one per grade level this year! I am hoping things don’t change on that front, but don’t be surprised if they do. The six periods enable us to offer one session per grade level, which means we can accommodate more students in each class. Selections for students for S.T.E.A.M. will take place after the NWEA is administered the first few weeks of school. Art Club, STAND and City Beautiful will start up in October. Please look forward to information on the above mentioned programs on my blog as soon as I get the needed information. In the meantime, enjoy this last week! Please stop by and say hello if you are at school next week! Thanks, looking forward to a great year!
