FIRST GRADE: FUN FISH!

Looking for a fun, creative activity for the kids at the Rosh Hashanah dinner? You got it! Instant download, color-in, folding fish greeting cards :) and may we be at the head and not the tail 🍷
22 Fishes Clipart | Hand Drawn Tropical Fish Vector | Digital art | Black Outline sketch | illustrat

You will need to make a head and a tail for your fish! Draw and color them with whatever you have on hand- crayons, markers, colored pencils…. Make the part that will attach to the middle section about 4 inches wide- at the edge of the head and the start of the tail. Add an eye- only one since we are looking at it from the side! Also add detail- fins, scales…. You can color just one side, or if you want to hang it up, color both sides!!! This could be fun hanging in front of an open window so it catches a breeze and spins. When you are done with the head and tail portions, take a rectangle of paper that is the same width as where it will attach. It should be long enough so that you can fold it. Maybe about 7 or 8 inches….then you start to fold. The method is called accordion- which means we fold it forward about an inch, then back to match, then forward, then back until you have used up all of the rectangle. Glue one edge to the head and one to the tail. A fish!! You can make many fish and you can change to sizes- a family of fish? Please send me a picture of your fish experience- include your first and last name AND the name of your teacher so that I can give you credit for your work!!! zecharj@dearbornschools.org

2nd GRADE: MINE-CRAFT SELFIES!!!

You will need a sheet of graph paper- you can print this or use one if you have a sheet a home. Maybe an older brother or sister has one from math…..

Make yourself, or a family member, or all of your family, or a friend, or an alien, an animal, a made up character- have fun! These are easy and fun to do! Color them with whatever you have available- crayons, markers, colored pencils…

Here are the steps-

When you are done please make sure to send me a picture! Include your first and last name AND the name of your teacher so that I can give you credit!!! zecharj@dearbornschools.org

As always- do all of your school work, get outside in the fresh air, be helpful around the house and Be Kind!!!

KINDERGARTEN: DESSERT!

There is an American artist, Wayne Thiebaud, that became famous for drawing and painting pictures of his favorite sweet things to eat. Think about what you like for dessert or a sweet treat…then draw and color it. If it seems too hard, think about the shape of the food. Cakes can be circles, one slice of cake can be a triangle, so can a piece of pie. An ice cream cone is a triangle with circles on top! Popsicles can be long, thin ovals, cookies are circles and brownies are squares! Oh, this is making me hungry!!!! Draw and color your favorite desserts. Make sure you put your first and last name and the name of your teacher with the photo that you send to me!! zecharj@dearbornschools.org

How To Make A Ninja Star In Paper How To Make A Ninja Star Step By Step

Ninja Stars- Origami!!!

You will need to squares of paper to do each one that you make. After you fold your star add a design to it to finish it off. You can make a lot of these and pass them out to your family, they will be amazed at your talent. Just take it step by step, you can back up or start over as often as you need. It is tricky at first, but when you get the hang of it you will have lots of fun!

This is long, and kind of slow, but you can stop and start.

Please share your Ninja Stars in a photo sent to my email. Include your first and last name and the name of your teacher so that I can give you credit for doing this assignment! zecharj@dearbornschools.org

IMPORTANT! Changes in Food Distribution!

IMPORTANT! Changes in Food Distribution!

Food Distribution Changes!

 by Joseph Martin

Dearborn Public Schools families are reminded that the meal distribution schedule will have a few changes starting the week of May 18 – the week before Memorial Day.

Because schools were scheduled to be closed on Friday and Monday for Memorial Day weekend, there will be no food distribution on May 22 and 25.

Meal distributions will still occur on Monday May 18 and on Wednesday May 20.  The May 20 distribution will include breakfasts and lunches for a full week, so families should be prepared to carry the larger quantity, including a half gallon of milk per student.

Through May 20 pickup times will continue to be later at four locations. Fordson High School, Woodworth Middle School, Salina Intermediate and McCollough Elementary will distribute meals from noon to 2 p.m.

Dearborn High School, Edsel Ford High School and Smith Middle School will hand out meals from 10 a.m. to noon.

The week after Memorial Day, meal distribution will go back to 10 a.m. to noon at all seven locations. Meals that week will be distributed on Wednesday, May 27 and Friday, May 29.

Dearborn Public Schools has been providing 65,000 grab-and-go meals a week for our students.

One person can pick up food for any student living in the home.  The child does not need to attend that school.  Each bag contains breakfast and lunch for the days until the next pickup.

The grab-and-go meals are provided free to families through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s School Lunch Program. Through the program, Dearborn Public Schools offered free lunch and breakfast to all kindergarten to 12th grade students before schools were closed to slow the spread of novel coronavirus.

Meal distribution schedule:

May 11, 13, 15, 18 and 20

Meals distributed from 10 a.m. to noon at Dearborn High School, Edsel Ford High School and Smith Middle School and from noon to 2 p.m. at Fordson High School, Woodworth Middle School, Salina Intermediate and McCollough Elementary.

NO DISTRIBUTIONS MAY 22 AND 25

May 27 and 29 and June 1, 3, 5, 8 and 10

Meals distributed from 10 a.m. to noon at all seven locations.

COOL MASKS!!!

This is a good time to use up lots of stuff just hanging around the house. Make a mask- you can cut out the eye holes so you really can use it, or you can just leave it and draw in the eyes. Cardboard would work best for the mask, but any paper will do. This will be a mask made of the junk/stuff you have one hand. You could pick a theme- recycled, blue, alien, etc. or just create using the stuff you have and see where it takes you. Any medium you have for color will work- crayons, colored pencils, markers, paint, colored paper…..

skull mask templates #papermachecrafts #paper #mache #crafts #dinosaur
Have you ever tried a cardboard costume? Though it is funny for elders when it comes to the kids, it is very much interested #cardboard_costume #kids_arts #graphic_design #cardboard_arts #costume

If you do use cardboard as your base, ask a parent to help you cut- especially if you are using corrugated cardboard like a box. What can you add? Recycled stuff- yogurt containers, egg cartons, tops from bottles or jars, …. yarn, lace, material…… bits of papers like cards, wrapping paper, tags… nature items- leaves, twigs, small stones….The possibilities are endless!!!! HAVE FUN!

Please remember to take a picture to send to me, include your first and last name and the name of your teacher so I can give your credit! zecharj@dearbornschools.org

Folded FROGS- these are so fun!!!!

If you get confused folding, just watch the video over. These are all folds you can do, you just might need to watch it a few times to get the steps down- then you will be the frog making master!

You will need a square of paper to make the frog, and some scraps to make the body and eyes. You can make one- or a ton- large and small depending on the size of your square. You could make a scene where lots of frogs are together- a pond, the woods, a frog band!, sitting at the table eating a meal together….you could add lots of frogs to a sheet of paper and make up a story about it! Frogs are green, but YOUR frogs can be any color you want.

Please send me a picture of what you created with the Origami Frogs you made. Make sure you add your first and last name and the name of your teacher so I can give you credit! zecharj@dearbornschools.org

As always, do all of your school work, get outside for fresh air- maybe today will be sunny and warm, be helpful at home and Be Kind!
