K/1 S.T.E.A.M.!

K/1 S.T.E.A.M.!

Maci tried a center design and turned the whole thing brown!

Jude goes for purple and yellow!

Timothy likes his pattern choice!

Leighton is pleased with her pattern!

Rianna likes what she has created!

Miles and Nick enjoy the design done by Miles!

Bilal is checking to see if his added Skittles are dissolving.

Grace, reacting to her masterpiece!

Gonzolo enjoys a few!

Adam likes his design!

We did an experiment with Skittles- we made predictions about what we thought would happen when we added different liquids.  Our predictions were right and ths Skittles started to decompose in the hot water.  The patterns the kids used made for some cool color designs.  Maybe you can tell they ate a few, too!

NWEA/MAP Assessments Window, January 8 – February 2, 2018

January 8, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians:

During the weeks of January 8 – February 2, 2018 your child will take the NWEA/ MAP.  This is our fourth year that we have used this test. The results of this test are / and will be used to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year. Each test will take approximately 40 to 60 minutes to complete and will be administered on different days (Please see teacher blogs for testing schedules).  Measurements of Academic Progress (MAP®) tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s appropriate level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward school.

The MAP® test is administered three times a year; fall, winter and spring.  For more information on resources for parents, download the Parent Toolkit at www.nwea.org

Please talk to your child to take her/his time and do his/her best. On the NWEA/MAP  students will be tested on the following subjects:

  • Kindergarten 1st Grade and 2nd grade students are tested in Math and Reading
  • 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are tested in Math, Reading, Language, Science

Please remind your child of the following test-taking tips.

Before the Test:

*Develop a positive attitude. Tell yourself, “I will do my best on this test.”

*Get a good night’s sleep the night before the test.

*Get up early enough to avoid rushing to get to school on time.

*Eat a healthy breakfast.

During the Test:

*Relax and Stay calm.

*Listen carefully to the directions the teacher gives.

*Ask questions if you do not understand what to do.

*Read each question carefully. Find the key words. Try to figure out what the question is really asking.

*Read the entire question and look at ALL the answer choices before you make your answer choice.

*Use strategies you learned in class to figure out the answer.

*Take your time!

Please encourage and motivate your child by letting him/her know that the formula for success is: taking your time and doing your best.
