We are wrapping up a week of paper folding and creating. Today I have some paper fish- there are two. The first one will be easier for younger students, but fun for everyone. Don’t worry about having the right size paper- almost any will work. You can decorate with crayons or markers or whatever you have available! If you stay with her after the fish she will show you some other folding ideas- butterfly, etc…..

Now for you older art students- folding and weaving! A fish, too, but it using some folding and some weaving techniques. First step by step, second a video.

To make the woven fish from paper you will need:
2 strips of paper 1/2 inch wide by 11 inches long
scissors2

Fold the 2 strips in half.
Place one horizontally with opening on the right.
Place the second strip vertically with opening at the top.
Insert the bottom layer of the horizontal strip between the layers of the vertical strip
and slide it all the way in

Curve the top layer of the vertical strip backwards and down between the horizontal layers5

Bring the back horizontal strip through the loop you just made6

Bring the bottom vertical strip (on the right) up through the loop you created in the last step7

Gently pull the ends to tighten8

Flip over to the back side9

Slant the top vertical strip to the right10

Insert the right horizontal strip into the loop that is between the 2 vertically ends11

Pull it through all the way
Adjust all the strips so they fall nicely in place
12

Cut the ends at an angle to create the fins13

and your woven fish is finished!
You will need 6 strips of paper, 3 each of two different colors. You are going to weave with the strips so you want them to be thin to learn how to do it. When you figure it out, you can make the strips thicker and make fish of all sizes ! The video is quick, but you can watch it over and over and make some really cool fish!
Have fun, check back- I will add something to do over the weekend in case you are looking for a creative outlet!
In the mean time- do your schoolwork, get outside for some fresh air, help around the house and Be Kind!
