Content Objective:  Students will demonstrate application of Coulomb’s Law by completing a stations review.

Language Objective: Students will write to answer questions about Coulomb’s Law using the 5 steps to problem solving method to solve problems during a stations review.

 Chemistry

Content Objective:  Students will demonstrate understanding names and formulas for ionic compounds by making connections to a text.

Language Objectives: Students will write to make connections between prior knowledge and a text by annotating the text with questions and equations about ionic compounds and reactions

  • Given a scenario, students will:Use patterns from ions on the periodic table to write predictions and name compounds in balanced equations

Content Objective: Students will demonstrate comprehension of electrostatics by thinking aloud during a Van de Graaff generator demonstration.

Language Objective:Students will write to answer questions about electrostatics using complete sentences on a unit 8 review brochure

Content Objective:  Students will demonstrate understanding names and formulas for ionic compounds by making connections to a text on an assessment.

Language Objective:  Students will write to make connections between prior knowledge and a text by answering questions and completing equations about ionic compounds and reactions on a summative assessment.

Given a scenario, students will complete a summative assessment:

  • Use patterns from ions on the periodic table to write and name compounds in balanced equations
  • determine ratios of compounds
  • use polyatomic ions to form balanced equations

Language Objective:  Students will write and orally discuss the meaning of chemical equations by translating chemical formulas and symbols into complete sentences.

Content Objective: Students will demonstrate understanding of a text with images by summarizing important information in their notebook.

Language Objective: Students will write to investigate the relationship between current and resistance and current and voltage using a virtual lab simulation about Ohm’s Law.
