A Big Day in Kindergarten!

Dear Families,

We had a great time at our Red Wing assembly this morning.  In fact, our very own Maggie got up on stage and won a Red Wing Water bottle!

After the assembly, we turned in our hockey jerseys for our science lab coats.  I posed the question to the kindergarten scientists “which car will go down the ramp the fastest?”  The scientists got into small groups and made ramps out of blocks to observe and race the four different cars.

Next, we tied in our Writer’s Workshop with the car race and wrote our opinions about which car would win the race.

After lunch, we actually tested out the four cars in each of the four lanes.  And the winner was…….

the green car!  It won every time!  Here are some of our hypotheses:

  • Scientist Olivia thought “it was because the wheels were faster!”
  • Scientist MacKenzie noticed “the green car was longer and started a little ahead of the others.”
  • Scientist Levi explained, “the back wheels on the green car are bigger and pushed the car faster down the ramp!”

A special thanks to Trevor Kleczynski who loaned his favorite car ramp in honor of science!

We ended our big day with our Cookie Reward!

Here are a few pictures from yesterday’s social studies lesson.  The students worked in small groups deciding whether things were “needs” or “wants.”  All I can say is that there were some very interesting conversations!  Please discuss with your child about needs and wants at home.  Our definition of a need is something that we need to live or survive.  Our definition of a want is something you would like to have.

Until next time…

  1. What An awesome program the Red Wings have put together. It would be awesome to get our entire class to go to the wings game in Feb. That would be a treat for everyone. Awesome science pics …. we have been taken good care of Pigeon and can’t wait to show you how he rolls at the Waverly Inn ( as we jokingly call our house) .

  2. Thank you so much for the amazing pictures, Mrs. Wright! I love them! Maggie was so excited to be chosen to go on stage!!! And the car race looks fun! Thanks again! ❤️️

  3. So fun for them! I hear all about mad science from Noah 😍 And how awesome are you for always getting the cutest pictures of the kids! ❤️ Thanks!
