I was informed yesterday that our weekly staff meetings will overlap with my Tuesday Google Meets sessions for the rest of the year. Due to this I have to adjust the time slightly. ALL office hours meetings will still take place on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS but will happen at 11-12 instead of the original plan of 11:30-12:30.

So new time again is TUESDAY AND THURSDAY 11-12.

I have had some questions about overlap with other teachers. This seems like between all your teachers in 3 different buildings this will be unavoidable. If you have a conflict you will need to provide me with the teachers name so I can confirm there is actually a conflict with time and then we can work out different way for you to check in. Or you can simply check in with me on the normal dates and times and only stay for a short time so you can attend multiple meetings. 

Most of you have been very productive this week and I am thrilled about that. Please keep up the good work. I hope to see you all tomorrow for our first Google Meet.

The first GOOGLE MEET will be Thursday April 23. I cannot have one today because out Principals scheduled another GOOGLE MEET for our staff at the same time. Assignments for Week of April 20-24

This week I have assigned documents A and B for the new DBQ set covering FREE SPEECH. I posted the documents last week but I have attached them here as well. We will go over your responses for DOC A during the Tuesday OFFICE HOURS and DOC B during the Thursday OFFICE HOURS. Of course any additional questions can be addressed during those OFFICE HOURS time slots or emailed directly to me at any time.

Class Update and Assignment for Monday

Today your assignment is to read the text below and start to create a schedule of you can balance this new set of expectations in your lives. If you have any questions or concerns AFTER reading the text email me. 

                                                                What Remote Learning Means for Me

I thought it would be helpful to start informing you how the new remote learning plan will alter our weekly schedule. 

Monday- Student work Day – On Monday of every week I will post the activities we will work on for that week, as well as when they should be turned in. (Most assignments will be submitted through email at your own pace) Mondays will be designated as time you can complete work for the upcoming week or even catch up something from a previous week. 

Tuesday- Office Hours and Digital Hangout – On Tuesday and Thursday morning I will post information about how to join the “Office Hours Video Conference.” There we will discuss the assignments for the week and check work for understanding. Because we need to check our work it is imperative ALL students at least check in with me during office hours. Office hours will be held from 11:30-12:30 EVERY TUESDAY and THURSDAY. You will not be required to attend the entire digital meeting but you will need to log on and check in. This will be required for your new participation grade. There will be individual circumstances where students will not be able to attend a digital meeting, in that case you are required to email within 24 hours before or after the digital meeting you missed in order to get credit. 

Wednesday- Student Work Day- Wednesday will be devoted to students completing work remotely. 

Thursday- On Tuesday and Thursday morning I will post information about how to join the “Office Hours Video Conference.” There we will discuss the assignments for the week and check work for understanding. Grades Update

I hoped I would have more information after my meeting today but it seems a plan for grading student work is still being worked on. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything. I was told more answers should be available by the end of the week. 

For those of you who are up to date with your assignments there is no new assignments today but we will start a new set of activities Wednesday so check back tomorrow.

To those of you who have not turned in your documents and essay for the Constitution DBQ please do so ASAP. Also please update me with your internet access information ASAP if you have not done so. That information seems crucial for the district in order to create a workable plan for student grading.

LASTLY!!!!! Please reach out to anybody you know in any of my classes and remind each other there is work being done online. If there is anybody you know of that has a technology issue or is not doing the work let me know please. The more I know about this information I can plan accordingly.

Welcome BACK!!! To ILEARN learning at least….

Greetings everyone,

First off I hope you are well. First of all I want to thank many of you for keeping busy with your learning in this difficult time. I have a very easy assignment for the next 24 hours or so.

Directions: Please email me with a brief description of what your internet and computer situation is at home. 

For example: I am using a Chromebook borrowed from work and I have a basic home internet connection. Although the internet has been slow due to increased needs from others in the area. I also have a cell phone that can check emails in Google. 

Please do not overlook doing this. I get the sense the district is asking for this information in order to better help efforts to make sure people can remote learn. 

Tomorrow afternoon I have a meeting with the MBCC principals about grading guidelines. I am hoping to get some more information on how we will accomplish grading moving forward. That meeting is at noon tomorrow. I should have an update for you around that time. I would not expect to start a new set of documents until wednesday of this week. Email me with any questions!

Friday and the Weekend

Good morning, 

I hope you are all doing well today. It occured to me that sometimes just writing things down or saying them to others can be very therapeutic. So the assignment today is to write a paragraph or two about observations you have had about the nearly unprecedented week we have had. You can add facts you have heard from any source of information. Or you can just tell me what it has been like for you. A suggestion I have is to get some fresh air as well. We have a little bit of nice warmer weather before it gets chilly again for the weekend. Try to get out a little bit today and just get some fresh air. I AM NOT TELLING YOU TO GO OUT IN GROUPS. Just merely I am sure we have all spent a great deal of time inside and that if you can it is always nice to get a bit of fresh air. This is my last post for the week. I hope you all have a great weekend. Email me with any concerns. If you get bored of course you can work ahead with the documents or CURRENT EVENT EXTRA CREDIT assignments are always useful to you grade.

Potential Issues

Good morning everyone,

First and foremost I want to mention that ILEARN seems to be experiencing some minor technical difficulties that are currently being addressed. So the assignment today is going to reflect that short term difficulty. 

Now, onto the update. I am so proud that within a few hours of posting yesterday’s assignment of the Constitution DBQ Document A numerous students emailed me and asked why we were not completing the Background Essay like we normally do. I somehow completely overlooked the Background Essay. So my assignment for today, if you can do it without issues on ILEARN is to complete the Background Essay using the normal format.

That brings the current checkpoint on the new DBQ to include Document A and Background Essay. 

I want to add again that I am so pleased with the effort you all are putting in. Many of you have turned in your essay from before the Coronavirus and I am currently going through and grading all of those. 

What’s Next?

Today I posted a new assignment in the Unit One Folder labeled Constitution DBQ. This will be the next activity we will be working on. The plan remains much the same as it did in class. We will take one article a day. Read the document an complete the corresponding questions. Next tuesday I will collect the ESSAY but remember this is uncharted waters, if you have questions or need more time that is fine. Lets try and take it one step at a time.

Today you work on Document A and put your answers in an electronic doc (Google Doc) label it “Constitution DBQ Documents” add all additional documents to this original Google Doc. When you finish all of the Documents (A-D) you can turn in your responses and start working on the essay.
