Halloween Costume Guidelines (10/31) per Mr. Oke

Students may dress APPROPRIATELY for Halloween. Any costumes must be consistent with the dress code policy and  MAY NOT interfere with the learning process or the teaching in the classroom.
The following rules must be followed:
  • No Plastic or prop weapons of any kind
  • No Masks
  • No Make-up
  • No Hats or Wigs
  • No Costumes that are revealing
  • Skirts and shorts must meet the fingertip length rule
  • Nothing offensive
  • Nothing distracting
  • No fake (or real) blood
Any violators will be asked to change or be sent home.
These are the same guidelines we used last year. Also, make sure students know that we don’t really celebrate Halloween at middle school. We just allow them to show a little Halloween spirit if they so choose, but that’s it.

A note about the Summer Learning Book Test retake today:

Some students came in today and asked to take the retake and I told them no. The reason was that for the last two weeks I have reminded them every day that in order to take the retake test, they had to fill out the Request to Retest form and get a parent signature. The reason that I had them do that was to show responsibility and accountability for their work. I wanted to see that they know what their score was before, that they had a plan for doing better, and that they told why they didn’t do well the first time. I also wanted parents to sign so that they knew that their child was taking the test and that the students were responsible for doing what they needed to in order to do better. Some students are upset that I wouldn’t let them retake, but I am going to stand firm in my belief that they needed to take responsibility for their learning at every step, and they were reminded every day of the requirement to fill out the retest form. Thank you for respecting this requirement.
