Grading and Feedback for Remote Learning Work

The following is from the Dearborn Public Schools Remote Learning Plan, approved by the State of Michigan Department of Education.

Assessment and Grading Guidelines
Individual teachers will be responsible for assessing student progress and providing feedback. Assignments will be graded. Work completed before April 20th that demonstrates a student’s mastery of learning will count toward his/her grade.

Elementary Assessment and Grading Guidelines
For this marking period, students will receive feedback on weekly assignments in the form of narrative comments.

2- Meeting: regularly submitted work and attended check-ins
Accuracy of work assessed on standards/graded
High participation
3- Progressing: Submitted most assignments and attended some of the check-ins
4- Limited Participation: little or no participation due to circumstances shared with teacher

Due to the Sunday to Sunday schedule we are now on, I will have grades and feedback from the previous week’s work sent to each student on Class Dojo by Monday evening.

Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂 Have a great day!

No Google Meets, but YES: Math and Reading Quiz

Good morning everyone,
There has been directive from the district to Cancel Google Meets for the now. We will not be meeting today at 3PM, HOWEVER students still have 2 quizzes to complete. The MATH QUIZ will be available at 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM. The 4th grade teachers wanted to try and assist with this during our Meets today, but since they are cancelled, we are all going to have a short window of time that the Math Quiz is available. There will be more directions posted at 3PM on Google Classroom. Today’s READING QUIZ will be shared at 3:30 PM. Since this is part writing (CER), students will have from 3:30 PM today until Sunday night to complete. This is going to be done on a Google Form and submitted right on Google Classroom.

I will post directions in a video for you at 2:45 PM. Please review the directions and try your best 🙂 If you still have assignments to work on from this week, please continue to do so over the weekend. NEW ASSIGNMENTS will be posted Sunday night and I’ll have a video on Class Story explaining next week’s focus.

Thanks so much for your patience and understanding. This is all a new way of learning for both students, parents, and teachers. I appreciate how hard and how focused many of you have been during this first week of Remote Learning! Keep up the great work so that you can be prepared for 5th grade!

Epic! Online books for FREE

Good morning 🙂

Today I have invited all students to join EPIC!, free online leveled books for students to access for this time of home learning. The website connected to our Google Classroom and sent an email to all students. To view student email, go to Clever/Gmail or Gmail.com and login with your student number.

This, like FlipGrid, is not required at this point in time. It is something free that we are going to try out. Mrs. Jakubik and I are new to the program and would like a few of you to try it out. If 4th graders are enjoying it, we may have it become part of our daily resources. For now, it’s free for you to try out! I know a lot of students were unable to come into school to get their books from their book boxes, so if you need new reading material, this is the perfect option for you!

Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂

Continue to check in during the week for updates!

FlipGrid (Not required, but could be fun)

Good morning 4th graders 🙂

On a normal Monday morning in March, we would be getting settled into the classroom… Talking about our weekends, getting supplies ready, filling up our water bottles.

But this is not a normal Monday. We cannot physically meet. I cannot give you a high five. We are unable to talk and do our normal daily agenda.

HOWEVER, I introduce you to FlipGrid. I’ve not used this before, but a few teacher friends of mine in other districts have and they will be keeping it active during this time away from the classroom.

What is FlipGrid? https://youtu.be/7q2leZr8k4g

We can still discuss topics from the comforts of our own homes 🙂 You can use a phone/computer/tablet with a video camera. If you do not have a camera, don’t worry. You can respond to your classmates using the comments section and add your own thoughts there 🙂

Our FlipGrid Class Code is: flipgrid.com/whitford1257

Again, I have not tried this yet, so it will take time for all of us to learn how to use this resource. And that is okay, because we have tons of free time now!

I will Dojo message your personal usernames/passwords this morning. Try to log in. I will post our first video discussion around noon, so check back!

Homework 3-13 to 4-12

Reminder: Exact Path, Zearn, and ReadTheory can be accessed the same way as we always have done in class and for break homework. Social Studies work can be accessed through Google Classroom ELA.

If you have any questions, please Dojo message me.

I appreciate your patience. We all have the same goal of keeping students safe and also trying to offer learning opportunities as we try to transition into online learning for the time being.

Take care, wash your hands, and be kind 🙂
