Hello, With the start of Ramadan, meal distribution times will change at four locations. Starting Friday, April 24, 2020 student meal distribution will be from noon to 2 p.m. at Fordson High, Salina Intermediate, Woodworth Middle and McCollough Elementary. The later time will continue through Memorial Day. Food will still be handed out between 10 a.m. and noon at Dearborn High, Edsel Ford High and Smith Middle School. Please remember to stay safe, stay home.

Happy Earth Day Everyone!I hope this post finds you and your loved ones in perfect health! Today we can really focus on ways to heal the Earth and look at the impact humans have on the planet. When we are looking at ways to help save our planet, let’s reinforce to the students that they are participating in this right now by staying home! While we may be uncomfortable with a stay home order, we are collectively helping give Mother Earth a much needed reprieve. During this time, the entire planet is experiencing similar changes. This is bigger than us, as individuals, and it is a perfect way to introduce them into how we are all connected and can work together for a greater good! 🙂 Be Well! Story – Pirates Don’t Change Diapers; Vocabulary words – wondering & miracle. Writing – make sure you use complete sentences – answer the following questions in your notebook. What was Jeremy Jacob wondering about? Who had to babysit Bonney Anne in the story and why did they have to babysit her? Spelling/sight words: Write all 10 spelling words in 3 different colored pencils, markers or crayons, like a rainbow write. Also, write the sight word pretty today. Make up a sentence with the word came in it and write it down and draw a picture to go with it.
Math – Watch the math video and do work with the video. Then send me a picture of your work and the final challenge work completed.
Story – Pig Kahuna Pirates; Vocabulary words – grumpy & inspired. Writing – make sure you use complete sentences – answer the following questions in your notebook. Why was Dink grumpy and how could you tell by looking at the picture? What inspired Fergus and what did he end up doing? Spelling/sight words: Write a sentence for 5 of your spelling words. Remember to start with a capital letter, finger space between words and end with a punctuation mark.
Math – Watch the math video and do work with the video. Then send me a picture of your work and the final challenge work completed.
Story – The Pirate of Kindergarten; Vocabulary words – squint & jumble; Writing – make sure you use complete sentences – answer the following questions in your notebook. What did Ginny’s face look like when she was squinting? Why do you think she was squinting? Have you ever had a Vision Screening test or an eye test like Ginny? Spelling/sight words: Write the other 5 spelling words in a complete sentence. Make sure to start with a capital letter, use finger spaces between words and end with a punctuation mark.

Tell me why you liked that story best. Tell me about you favorite part. Don’t forget to draw a detailed picture to go along with your writing. Spelling/sight words: Do a practice spelling test with someone today. Have them say the words for you and you write them down. Then practice any words you spell incorrectly by writing it 3 times the correct way. Practice writing the word saw. Write a sentence using the word saw.

Write about 2 things you like about yourself. Ask someone to tell you something they like about you. Draw me a detailed picture of yourself. Spelling/sight words: Practice writing the sight word eat. Write a sentence about something you love to eat and draw a picture to go with your sentence. We will do our spelling today online!

Assignments will be graded and entered in MiStar to ensure accountability.
Teachers will continue to provide feedback to students on his/her performance.
Teachers will practice flexibility based on their knowledge of the student/family and have the ability to not count an assignment(s) for a student depending on his/her circumstances.
Work completed prior to April 20th that demonstrates a student’s mastery of learning will count toward his/her grade.
Elementary Grading Criteria – COVID-19 School Shutdown
For the current marking period:
Students receive feedback on weekly assignments in the form of narrative comments.
Meeting: regularly submitted work and attended check-ins
Accuracy of work assessed on standards/graded/recorded in MiStar
High participation
Progressing: Submitted most assignments and attended some of the check-ins
Limited Participation: with one of the following explanations
Rarely or did not submit work (may be required to attend summer school)
Rarely attended check-in sessions (may be required to attend summer school)
Family hardship during the time of instruction (summer support offered)
