Update 3/23

Hey everybody,

I hope you and your families are staying safe. This is a wildly unprecedented event for all of us. You will remember this for the rest of your lives. Obviously, your first priority is to take care of yourself and your loved ones.

As you know, everything is changing a lot in short periods of time, but here is where we stand right now on school:

Your online assignments will not be graded, due to the MI Dept of Ed announcement from last Friday. This was a surprise to us (teachers) and administration as much as it was to you.

It’s also very likely that will change. The MI legislature would have to pass a new law allowing for online schooling in a circumstance such as this for it to work. Gov. Whitmer is pushing for that to happen, and it seems likely.

You will not have any standardized testing this year (no PSAT, SAT, etc.).

I will still be posting assignments for you and giving you feedback on the assignments that you submit. Because they aren’t graded, they will be shorter and a bit more lighthearted or choice-driven, so hopefully you enjoy them. Literature and writing can be a lovely escape or a means of coping with difficult things. Of course, it’d also be good for your academics to keep your brain active during this time.

While I can’t deny that sleeping in is nice, I do miss seeing you guys. Feel free to check in just to tell me what you are up to, or just do a random assignment when you have time or when you like the assignment so I know you are doing okay.

Ms. Wall-Winkel
