Good morning parents and students,
This month has flown by! This week marks the end of our 2017 portion of the school year. We will have a two week break from school, returning January 8th, 2018.
Students will be receiving a winter break homework packet to be completed during our time off. This packet will be filled with reading and math worksheets to practice skills we have already been working on so far this school year. Please be sure to encourage your student to work on the packet a little bit everyday.
Please be sure your student is reading for at least 20 minutes a day during the break. Use the comprehension questions in the Book Bags to build comprehension skills. Rereading the books will help with accuracy and fluency. Practice addition and subtraction math facts at home, as well.
We will be NWEA testing a couple weeks after we return from our break. Students need to continue practicing their fluency and stamina by reading at home, in addition to all the reading at school. This will help get students closer to grade level, and beyond, in reading.
I hope you all have a wonderful break. Be safe, and have fun!
Here is a picture of my kids with Santa. Hannah is only 1 1/2 and is terrified of Santa this year! 🙂

Hello families!
What a fun trip we had to the cider mill/apple orchard! The students seemed to very much enjoy themselves. The farm was quite vast, and it had lots for our students to do. Here are some photos from our day. We went apple picking, then ate lunch, donuts, & cider. Then the students were able to roam freely around the grounds and engage in some fun activities, such as a haunted house, hay stack pyramid, and corn maze! Wahoo!

Good afternoon families of Lowrey 2nd grade students!
This is my first iBlog post for our classroom. As a new teacher to the Dearborn district, I needed to set up my new blog. I can type notes to my blog and you should receive an Email notification that I have updated it.
Please feel free to contact me regarding any questions, concerns, or comments about your student or the class.
I hope everyone is able to utilize this wonderful feature for easier contact.
Please remember to check your student’s homework folder every night for notes, and to keep up with the weekly homework packet. Also, planners should be signed daily. Students will write their color at the bottom of their planners so you know their behavior for that day.
Have a wonderful evening!
Mrs. VanAllen
