Practice Telling Time

Today you will need 2 paper plates (2 different sizes). On the smaller plate put the numbers 1-12 on it like a clock. Then on the larger clock put the numbers 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 00. Make sure you have the larger plate behind the small plate, so the number line up for the hour and minutes. Then you can make 2 paper arrows for the hour and minute hands, attach with a paper clip or Popsicle sticks.

I made this with 2 pieces of paper, because I didn’t have any paper plates at home.

Fun Science Experiment

Today we will do a fun science experiment. This experiment will help you and your kids to learn a little bit about the 3 states of matter…solid, liquid and gas. Before you start the experiment talk with your child about what they think will happen to the ice cream and pop. See if they can tell you the three states of matter.

Items you will need;

*clear glass

*vanilla ice cream

*root beer pop

Steps for the experiment:

  1. scoop out a nice size of vanilla ice cream and place it in the clear glass.
  2. pour the root beer over the ice cream and watch what happens
  3. eat your creation and then talk about the 3 states of matter

The ice cream is your solid.

The root beer is your liquid.

And when you pour the root beer over the ice cream, you have created the bubbles, which is the gas.

Now that your experiment is done, have your child write about what happened during the process. Hope you enjoyed this fun experiment. Stay safe and I miss you all.

Spelling/Sight Word Activities

Today I will share some fun activities you can do with your spelling words from your teacher or your sight words.

  1. Write your words outside using sidewalk chalk
  2. Trace around with colored pens and draw an outline around the word, kind of like bubble letters.
  3. Military spelling-do jumping jacks, as you clap and say each letter to spell the word.
  4. Scratch n’ Sniff-write letters with glue on paper, then sprinkle with dry jello-o. After it dries, rub your finger over the letters and it will smell like what-ever flavor you used.
  5. Snap and Spell-snap on each letter, clap when you say the word at the end.
  6. Timer-get a timer. Set it for 3 minutes. See how many times you can write your words before the timer goes off.
  7. Good Clean Words-write your words in shaving cream on a counter or some other surface that can be cleaned safely.
  8. Cheer your Words-pretend you are a cheerleader and call out your words.
  9. Choo-choo words-write the entire list end-to-end as one long word, using different colors of crayon or ink for different words.
  10. Word Art-draw a picture and write your words in the picture.

Writing a Letter

Today we will write a letter or a card to some you miss seeing. Maybe you want to to write to your teacher, Ms. Abdulla, Mr. Awada, or maybe someone in your family that lives far away. In your letter tell the person what kinds of things you are doing to stay busy. This activity can be fun and it will help you to get some of your questions out.

To start a letter you should put the date at the top right corner of the paper. Then add Dear……,

Now you will start to write the body of letter. This is where you will put your thoughts and idea to the person you are writing to.

After you finish all of your letter, you will need to sign the bottom of the letter with your name.

Continue to stay safe and I miss you!
