Did you know that children learn important vocabulary when they read?  Reading every day is vital to all learning.  The more a child reads the more vocabulary they will learn.  Children in Kindergarten through third grade are learning to read but children in fourth grade and higher are reading to learn.  I highly recommend that all children read for a minimum of 5 minutes a day.  The reading time is based on the age of the child.  During this time a parent can read to the child, especially if the child is a new reader.  If you need some ideas of what kind of books your child should be reading let me know and I will find a list for you.
