• We are all very excited to go to the fire safety house tomorrow.  The kids keep asking me about snack and lunch.  We will only be gone for about an hour tomorrow, so I reminded them that most of the day will be filled with normal things.  We will still do Daily 5, eat snack, have a normal lunch rountine, and go to Art.
• Spelling test is also tomorrow!  We looked up the words in the dictionary on Monday, but everyone must have 2 other activities done in their red spelling notebook for tomorrow morning.  If they don’t have their red notebook at home tonight and they need to finish, have them work on lined paper.  The words are posted on the spelling page of the blog.
• No school on Friday, April 18th.   I will see everyone back on Monday, April 28th.
• KEEP READING over break!  Many of them got chapter books from the library today so they would have “more to read”, lol, but they can read whatever they want next week.  The first week back I will be starting reading assessments.

• Field trip information came home today.  Please sign and return on Monday.
• Next week’s spelling words are posted on the spelling page.  Since it is a short week, each student will only have the 7 pattern words to practice.
• Please continue to send in your returnable cans and bottles.
• I submitted the Scholastic book order today…keep your fingers crossed and we might get it before break 😉

Tomorrow night (Thursday) is our Literacy Night from 5:30-7:00.  Howard teachers have planned some awesome activities – I hope to see everyone there!!!!  I am not giving any homework tomorrow night 🙂  You can get here about 5:15 to check-in.  All students must be accompanied by an adult.

• Social Studies Quiz next week on Tuesday.  Everybody should have 2 sheets in their folder that they can use to study.  The quiz will focus on 3 questions:  What is government?  Why do we have government?  What are some services provided by the government?
• Social Studies next week will focus on the question, “Who is in the government?”
• The reading calendar for April came home this week.  Every student who turns in a calendar with 400 minutes or more for April AND again in May will participate in a pizza party.
• LITERACY NIGHT is coming up this Thursday, April 10th from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Check-in starts at about 5:15.  Each Howard student who attends will get a free book.  There will be about 15 literacy activities going on throughout the evening that students can visit – making bookmarks, creating cootie catchers, slime time, jeopardy, book walk, BINGO, and more…
• We have a field trip to the fire house coming up on April 17th.  Look for more information to come home at the end of next week.
• Howard’s City Beautiful group is doing a can/bottle drive again this year to raise money for flowers and new trees that can be planted around the school.    You can start sending in 10 cent returnable cans/bottles on Monday.  Please rinse them out first.  We  turn them over to the committee on Fridays, so if you want to wait and send them in on Friday, that would be great!
• Pajamas and Pancakes was a HUGE success 🙂  Thanks again for the donations to make it possible!!  Thanks also to Mrs. Elsersy for coming in to help flip and for creating super cute smiley faces out of chocolate chips.

• Tomorrow is PJ’s and Pancakes 🙂  A note came home in today’s folder. Students should bring their pj’s and we will change after lunch.  Thank you to everyone who volunteered to send in items – we couldn’t have done this without you 🙂
• Jump Rope for Heart information came home today.
• New spelling words are posted.  We are still focusing on suffixes.  We did an activity together today, but they still need to complete 2 at home before Friday morning.
• MARK YOUR CALENDARS…Literacy Night is coming up on April 10th from 5:30-7:00 p.m.  Every Howard student that comes receives a free book!  There will be over 15 activities for your family to choose from 🙂
• A big THANK YOU to Saad’s mom for coming in and reading to us today!  We were fascinated with that shark book (and the video of Saad with the sharks) 🙂                                                                

• Monday is Tigers’ opening day…wear all your Tiger gear to show your support 🙂
• Tuesday is Pajamas and Pancakes!  Students should bring their pj’s in their backpack – we will change into them after lunch recess.  They may also have a blanket to spread out on while we watch a movie.  If anyone is willing to send in one or two of those yellow bottles of pancake mix (the ones where you just add the water to the container and shake), please comment on this post.  We will also need one bottle of syrup, plates, and forks.

• Pancakes and pajamas is our classroom behavior reward.  This will take place next Tuesday (April 1).  We will change into our pajamas after lunch, eat pancakes, and watch a movie.  Students are able to bring a blanket to spread out and sit on.
• Today we had 2 guest readers!!!  THANK YOU to Mrs. Montierth and Mr. Salame for coming in and reading to us 🙂

We are so lucky to have a week packed full of guest readers!!  A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Lahay and Mrs. Chehimi for reading to us 🙂

• Today was the last day of the cardmarking.  Report cards will come home around the middle of next week.  If we have a conference scheduled for next Thursday night, you will receive your child’s report card at the conference.
• I sent home notes to request conferences earlier in the week.  If you received one and haven’t returned it, please do so.
