A big thank-you to Mr. Fawaz for being our guest reader today! We really enjoyed listening to the story Secret Agent, Splat!

You may have already heard…
We had a spectacular visit today from the Dearborn High Football Team!! They were our first guest readers in March 🙂 The boys read to us for a while, then we got to ask questions and they talked to us about the importance of focusing on academics!! We ended our time by doing one of their football chants with them and then taking a group picture…
Coming up…
- Next week’s spelling words: clown growl round crown loud
- Late start on Wednesday, 3/11.
- LITERACY NIGHT is on Thursday, 3/12, from 5:30-7:00. Howard teachers have planned some awesome activities – I hope to see everyone there!!!! You can get here about 5:15 to check-in. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
- GREAT JOB to all of the students who made their 120 minute reading goal!!! They earned a sticker for their tent and a raffle ticket for lunch with Mrs. Burch. I am missing a few ‘week 1’ papers. Even if your child did not reach the 120 minute goal for our classroom, please send in the amount of minutes that they did read. The school also has a goal of 200,000 minutes – if we reach that we are rewarded with S’mores 🙂 Your ‘week 2’ paper starts today!!
- Our buddy activity this week went along with our outdoor theme – we made bird feeders 🙂 Hopefully yours made it home in tact so that you can hang it outside for your bird friends.
Thank You!! (and more)
Just a quick reminder that the “week 1” reading minutes are due on Friday!! I apologize for any confusion – I mentioned at the concert they were due tomorrow, but I was a day ahead of myself. Everyone will hopefully reach 120 minutes this week so they can add a forest animal to their tent and be entered into a drawing for lunch with Mrs. Burch.
Tomorrow is “put a list in your pocket” day. This week they should have a list of 5 things they need to take if they go camping.
We will visit the book fair tomorrow to purchase books.
and finally…
Thank you so much for supporting your students in our evening concert. They were super!!
Concert, etc…
- Our concert is tomorrow!!! The students will perform for parents at 7:00 p.m. Please plan to bring your child back to school tomorrow night and drop them off in our classroom about 6:45 p.m. After they sing, I will bring them back to our classroom to play games until you pick them up when the concert is over.
- Everyone has science homework tonight (2-sided) and a few students have some leftover math from today.
- We visited the book fair today and made wish lists. We will go back on Thursday to purchase. The book fair will also be open before and after the concert tomorrow night.
- Math tests have been graded and entered into gradebook for you to look at.
- The PBS reward for February is a game day. Students who had less than 6 yellows, no blue, and no red will be able to participate. We will have our game day on Friday afternoon for about the last hour of the day. If your child would like to bring a game from home to play, please make sure it has their name on it. (No electronics)
- The PBS reward for March will be ice cream. In order to participate, students cannot have more than 4 yellows.
Camp Read-A-Lot
March is reading month starts Sunday 🙂 Everyone should have brought home a green packet to explain how things will work. Students should keep track of the minutes they are reading every day and write it on the correct ticket (start at the bottom of the page with ‘week 1’). This will be in place of the monthly reading calendar. Please send each ticket back on Friday. Students who read at least 120 minutes a week will be entered in a drawing to eat lunch with Mrs. Burch. If you have any camping stories at home, feel free to send them in OR you can save them for yourself because on Monday, I will also be sending home an invitation for parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles to come into our room and read to us!! We are looking forward to many fun activities this month!!!!
Looking Ahead…
- Tomorrow we have a spelling test and red notebooks will be graded. Please make sure your child has 4 activities completed (1 was done at school on Monday, 3 should have been done at home)
- We are taking our Unit 6 Math Test tomorrow. Nobody panic! We did a review today that look pretty much exactly like the test. We went through and discussed every question and shared strategies. They did bring the review home, if you want to give them a few practice questions tonight.
- Our music concert is next week, March 4th. There will be a performance during the day for the school and then a 7:00 p.m. performance for parents. Please do your very best to bring your child for the evening concert.
- The book fair is coming next week. We will visit on Monday to create our wish list and then again on Thursday to purchase books. The book fair will also be open during the evening concert.
- Coming in March…
I am so excited to start our March reading theme – Camp Read-A-Lot!! We have some super activities planned 🙂
Happy 100th Day :)
Reading
I am so happy to see that many of you are encouraging your student to log in to Raz-kids and do some reading. I have sent out some messages and bonus stars to the students who have been active recently – have them log in and check it out 🙂
I did notice that some kids had logged in but hadn’t actually finished reading any stories, so try to make sure they do that. If your child hasn’t tried it yet, go to Raz-kids.com and where it says teacher type in TurkL
Hi 🙂 I hope everyone is warm and cozy! I just wanted to mention a couple of reminders:
- Everyone’s 100th day project is due on Tuesday. These are to be completed at home. I am so excited to see them!
- If you are sending in an item for our “gorp” snack, please send it in on Monday.
- For the full details about these two 100th day activities, please visit the 100th day page on this blog. https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/turkl/100th-day-of-school/
- There is a menu change for Monday. First choice will be cheese quesadilla.
- Our spelling words for next week are: root, canoe, clue, chew, fruit. Individual words will be given on Monday.
- Our Valentine’s Day at school was great! The party was super fun 🙂 A very big THANKS to all of our party volunteers and everyone who sent in items. I was overwhelmed by the very thoughtful gifts the students brought to me that day. I loved the flowers, brownies, yummy apple, movie snack kit, perfume, all the cards, and the delicious chocolate – THANK YOU!! Here are a few pictures that I took during our party:
