Guess what????

  • We still have spelling words this week!!  They have 10 homophones:  hair, hare, weak, week, write, right, son, sun, bear, bare  (no individual words).  Students should complete 3 activities at home and then return their notebooks on Friday.  Our test will be Friday, as usual.
  • I have started collecting reading group bags.  Some groups are still going so that we can finish our chapter books.  We will all be working on the same stories from the Treasures series over the next week and a half.  They may get some homework from that soon.
  • Our 2nd grade picnic is next Thursday, June 4th.  We will head over to the park around 11:45ish. All parents are welcome to join us! Students will most likely pack a lunch for this day – exact details will follow soon 🙂

Classroom News…

  • Tomorrow is our field trip to the fire safety house.  We will leave on the bus by 9:15 and be back by about 10:45.  If you are a chaperone, please meet us in the classroom by 9:05 so that you can ride the bus with us.
  • Social Studies homework came home tonight.  They will need your help!!!  Please sit with them to help fill it out.
  • Spelling – We have 10 pattern words this week, but no individual words.  The test will be on Thursday.  We started 2 activities in class today so they should only have to complete 2 more in their notebooks for homework.
  • Yay for us!!  We earned all of our brownie points!!  Instead of making regular brownies like last time, Mrs. Bower has volunteered to come in tomorrow afternoon to help us make “brookies”. It’s a chocolate chip cookie AND a brownie…sounds delicious 🙂
  • Library check-out will be on Wednesday!!  This is our last week for checking out books.
  • Thursday afternoon is the Fun Run!  Everyone brought home the form for donations last week.  The student in our class with the most donations wins lunch with Mrs. Burch.
  • No school:  Friday 5/22 and Monday 5/25

  • Spelling test tomorrow and library check-out.
  • Permission slips for the firehouse will come home tomorrow.  Please have them back by next Wednesday.  The trip is on the 19th from 9:30-11:30.  I am in need of 4 parents to go with us 🙂
  • Today we did a challenge with our buddies to see which paper tower would hold the most chapter books.  It seemed our results all showed that the cylinder tower held the most.  Check out the success of this tower…

Tomorrow…

Sorry for the late notice, I just found out that we will be watching part of the Tiger’s game tomorrow for our PBIS behavior reward. If your child had less than 5 yellows, and 0 blues/reds, they will be able to participate. We will be enjoying popcorn as we watch. If your child would like to bring in a drink to go with their popcorn, that would be fine.

Classroom News…

  • Thanks to everyone who came out for McTeacher’s Night!  I could not stop smiling at how excited the kids were to see us all working behind the counter – it was so cute 🙂
  • So today we were scheduled to take the reading MAP test at 9:00 a.m.  It was a disaster!  You’re students were great, but the technology failed us…pages loaded slower than snails, many of the kids had to keep hitting F5 to get their pages to actually show up, it ended up skipping pages when they hit next, and at one point 80% of us were staring at white screens because we lost our connectivity to the internet.  In the end, about 15 students got through the whole thing – we were there for an hour and 40 minutes.  Not the best way to start a Monday and it obviously cut into a huge chunk of our instructional time.
  • Due to the field trip on Friday and this mornings testing challenge, I am behind in my reading group schedule.  I did squeeze in 3 groups today, I will try to get to everyone else tomorrow.
  • The highlight of my day today???  This awesome bulletin board!!  It made my heart smile 🙂

Classroom News…

  • Unit 9 review came home today for math.  There are a few problems for them to complete at home, so please send it back tomorrow.  They will bring it home again tomorrow night so you can help them practice.  We will have our test on Friday.
  • We had a visit from Fireman Mike today.  He showed us a video and talked to us about fire safety.  The students brought home a note explaining his visit and our upcoming trip to the fire safety house on May 19th.  The permission slip for this trip will not come home until the end of next week.
  • I can use 1 more chaperone for Friday.  No pressure!!  The students are loading the bus at 9:00 and then we have another class to pick up at Long, so parents will just meet us at the Dearborn Historical Musuem at 9:30.  We will be back to school in time to eat lunch in the cafeteria like normal.

  • Last call for book orders 🙂  You can order online using our classroom code, MK4VL.  I will submit the order later tonight.
  • Reading groups should be back to normal by Thursday or Friday (at the latest)…I am finishing up testing the last few kids.
  • We have two more field trips coming up in May.  On May 1st, we will be going to the Dearborn Historical Museum from 9:00-11:30. The cost of this trip is $5.  Permission slips will come home on Friday.  On May 19th, we will be going to the fire safety house from 9:30-11:30. There is no cost for this trip. I am only allowed 4 chaperones per trip.  If there are lots of volunteers, I will just pick randomly 🙂

  • Book orders went home yesterday.  If you would like to purchase something, please turn your order in by Monday, April 20th.  You can also order online, using our classroom code MK4VL.
  • Don’t forget we are collecting returnable cans/bottles to help the environment and raise money to plant flowers around the school.  Mrs. Galvan has offered to help return them for us 🙂

  • Originally tomorrow was going to be a late start. The late start has been cancelled.  School will start at the regular time.
  • We are collecting empty returnable cans/bottles to raise money for flowers to plant around the school.  The City Beautiful committee has asked that I have a homeroom parent pick them up once a week and return them…anyone?  anyone?
  • We had a SUPER field trip today!!!  The kids LOVED it 🙂  The biggest THANK YOU to all of our chaperones – you are awesome!
