  • DUE TOMORROW:  math homework pages 31 and 32, red spelling notebook with 3 completed activities
  • Don’t forget to bring library books back tomorrow also
  • We made Howard’s facebook page!!  Mrs. Burch snapped a few pics of us playing jeopardy during social studies with Ms. Philips 🙂
  • Just a reminder that we have a social studies test coming up on Monday.  The review went home earlier in the week, but I have included it here, too.

Social Studies Review

Tomorrow…

is a busy day!!!  We have our weekly spelling test, library book check-out, and it’s a 1/2 day so students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.  It is also the last day to turn in box tops!

On another note, I just wanted to make sure students are reading their 20 minutes each night and coloring their book-it calendar.  Everyone who returns their calendar at the end of the month, with at least 25 days of reading colored in, will earn a certificate for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.

Thanks to the families that have donated dice!  We now have enough for everyone 🙂

In the news…

  • THANK-YOU to the families that have donated dice!!  We are up to 15 🙂  I did have a mom find them at the dollar store with the paper products (weird, right?!).
  • Homework:  tonight there is math, front and back, #’1-6 on both sides.  Tomorrow night they will  have homework that goes along with their social studies.  Thursday night they just need to study and make sure their spelling activities are complete.
  • Friday, October 16th is a half day of school.  Students are dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
  • We did our first week of Homeworkopoly last week.  Every student who returned all of their homework assignments (completed, of course) got an opportunity to roll and move their # on the game board.  There is a chance that they will win a prize.  This week a few students won prizes that included: use the teacher’s chair for the day, pick a GoNoodle, add a brownie point to our class total, get a fun eraser, and sit on the couch for the day.  They had so much fun!!  We will continue Homeworkopoly every Friday.

got dice?

  • We have a strategy we use during Work on Writing called “roll a story”.  However, to use this strategy we need dice.  It would be really awesome if we had enough dice for every student to keep one in their book box.  If you are out and about (maybe the dollar store?) and see some dice, we would very much appreciate any donations.  They can be foam or plastic – they just need to be small enough to fit into our book boxes or pencil cases.
  • Red spelling notebooks should be returned to school tomorrow.  Please make sure your child has at least 3 activities completed (rainbow words and 2 more)…they can always do more 🙂  On their spelling test tomorrow they will get the 5 pattern words they have been practicing, 5 words they didn’t study but still follow the pattern, and then the 5 science words that they have been studying.
  • math homework came home today – just a page of 6 math boxes.  Math tests are graded and will come home tomorrow.

homework

  • Today we brought home math boxes for homework – they should do all of the boxes on page 19 and #’s 2, 4, and 6 on page 20.
  • Yesterday, students should have brought home their red, spelling notebooks.  We did rainbow words together in class.  They should do 2 MORE activities at home.  When they bring it back to me on Friday morning, they should have 3 activities done!!
  • We made the cutest Frankensteins today 🙂  Ask your child about what we wrote on the inside…

  • October reading logs came home today.  Students who return them with at least 25 days colored will earn a certificate for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.  To go along with the kick off of Book It, Pizza Hut is offering a few free Kindle books…just visit amazon.com/PIZZAHUTBOOKIT and enter the promo code:  BOOKITFREE, then download your new books and start reading.
  • We have a UNIT 1 math test coming up on Friday.  I am attaching a blank pre-test we used earlier in the month, so you can go over it with your child at home if you would like to.  The test on Friday will cover the same skills.  Grade+2++PRE+Test+Unit+1 (2)

In the news…

  • Red spelling notebooks came home yesterday.  We did one activity together in class, please make sure your child completes at least 2 more activities at home.  They can always do extra!
  • There is math homework tonight.  Please complete both sides of the practice worksheet.
  • Xtra Math information came home today on a green paper.  I would love it if you could make this a part of your routine a few nights a week.  If they get really good at these basic facts, it will only make things easier for them later!!
  • Many thanks to the moms who came in today and helped us personalize our writing notebooks!  Not everyone finished, so we will continue on another day this week…

I just wanted to check-in with you really quick regarding a few things…

  • I hope you are collecting pictures and stickers for your child to personalize their Work on Writing notebook with.  I could use 2 or 3 parent volunteers this week to come in and help the students complete this project.  If you are willing and able, please send me an email or comment on this post.
  • Our schedule was sent home in the silver folder.  The most important things are to remember Gym is on Wednesdays (so you need to wear gym shoes) and library check-out is Friday (so books should be returned this day).
  • I have signed everyone up for XtraMath.  A note will come home Monday with your child’s log-in.  PLEASE consider making this a part of your routine a few nights a week – these simple math facts are the foundation for the more complicated problems to come!!!
  • We have had all green behavior cards so far this month – YAY for us!!  We have also had our first friend flip his card to SUPERHERO!!  Congrats to Bilal for going above and beyond 🙂

  • We had a confirmed case of the ‘hand, foot, mouth’ virus last week.  No need to panic, I just wanted you to know in case you also notice some spots on your child.

Looking forward…

  • Open House is tonight from 5:00-6:00.  Please come in and visit our room 🙂  You can sign up for conference times by the gym.  If you take pictures of your child in our ‘photo booth’, please email them to me at turkl@dearbornschools.org.
  • Red spelling notebooks are due tomorrow.  Everyone should have 3 total activities completed (1 we did in class, 2 were done at home).
  • Tomorrow is library check-out.  Please help your child make sure they have their library books to return.
  • Today we visited the book fair.  Your child may have brought home a wish list in their silver folder.  We are returning to the book fair on Monday to purchase books.
  • Today was our first ‘switch’ for writing and social studies.  We rotated to Ms. MacDonald for writing and to Ms. Philips for social studies.  We will do this 2 days a week (Mondays and Thursdays).
