Homework

  • We did research today on an animal.  Everybody was supposed to fill out a graphic organizer with facts about their animal.  The organizer had 5 boxes, but students only had to choose 3 boxes to fill in.  They needed at least 3 facts in each of the boxes they chose.  If your child did not finish, or did not choose appropriate facts, they brought it home.  The websites we used are at the bottom of the page.  Please help your child fix/finish the graphic organizer.
  • Some students also brought home a spelling activity we were doing in class for homework.  It is due back tomorrow.  This does not count as an activity for their red notebook.
  • OH, AND…tomorrow we will go outside to read with our buddies.  If you want, you can send in a small blanket for them to sit on.

Guess what????

  • We still have spelling words this week!!  They have 10 homophones:  hair, hare, weak, week, write, right, son, sun, bear, bare  (no individual words).  Students should complete 3 activities at home and then return their notebooks on Friday.  Our test will be Friday, as usual.
  • I have started collecting reading group bags.  Some groups are still going so that we can finish our chapter books.  We will all be working on the same stories from the Treasures series over the next week and a half.  They may get some homework from that soon.
  • Our 2nd grade picnic is next Thursday, June 4th.  We will head over to the park around 11:45ish. All parents are welcome to join us! Students will most likely pack a lunch for this day – exact details will follow soon 🙂

Classroom News…

  • Tomorrow is our field trip to the fire safety house.  We will leave on the bus by 9:15 and be back by about 10:45.  If you are a chaperone, please meet us in the classroom by 9:05 so that you can ride the bus with us.
  • Social Studies homework came home tonight.  They will need your help!!!  Please sit with them to help fill it out.
  • Spelling – We have 10 pattern words this week, but no individual words.  The test will be on Thursday.  We started 2 activities in class today so they should only have to complete 2 more in their notebooks for homework.
  • Yay for us!!  We earned all of our brownie points!!  Instead of making regular brownies like last time, Mrs. Bower has volunteered to come in tomorrow afternoon to help us make “brookies”. It’s a chocolate chip cookie AND a brownie…sounds delicious 🙂
  • Library check-out will be on Wednesday!!  This is our last week for checking out books.
  • Thursday afternoon is the Fun Run!  Everyone brought home the form for donations last week.  The student in our class with the most donations wins lunch with Mrs. Burch.
  • No school:  Friday 5/22 and Monday 5/25

  • Spelling test tomorrow and library check-out.
  • Permission slips for the firehouse will come home tomorrow.  Please have them back by next Wednesday.  The trip is on the 19th from 9:30-11:30.  I am in need of 4 parents to go with us 🙂
  • Today we did a challenge with our buddies to see which paper tower would hold the most chapter books.  It seemed our results all showed that the cylinder tower held the most.  Check out the success of this tower…

Tomorrow…

Sorry for the late notice, I just found out that we will be watching part of the Tiger’s game tomorrow for our PBIS behavior reward. If your child had less than 5 yellows, and 0 blues/reds, they will be able to participate. We will be enjoying popcorn as we watch. If your child would like to bring in a drink to go with their popcorn, that would be fine.

Classroom News…

  • Thanks to everyone who came out for McTeacher’s Night!  I could not stop smiling at how excited the kids were to see us all working behind the counter – it was so cute 🙂
  • So today we were scheduled to take the reading MAP test at 9:00 a.m.  It was a disaster!  You’re students were great, but the technology failed us…pages loaded slower than snails, many of the kids had to keep hitting F5 to get their pages to actually show up, it ended up skipping pages when they hit next, and at one point 80% of us were staring at white screens because we lost our connectivity to the internet.  In the end, about 15 students got through the whole thing – we were there for an hour and 40 minutes.  Not the best way to start a Monday and it obviously cut into a huge chunk of our instructional time.
  • Due to the field trip on Friday and this mornings testing challenge, I am behind in my reading group schedule.  I did squeeze in 3 groups today, I will try to get to everyone else tomorrow.
  • The highlight of my day today???  This awesome bulletin board!!  It made my heart smile 🙂
