Today…

was pretty awesome!!  We had 2 super visits from guest readers – huge thank-yous to Mrs. Elhassan and Mr. Mosallam for stopping in and reading to us.  We also had a great time during our flashlight read-in!!!  We made our school reading goal so we munched on s’mores while we read 🙂 ( notes for next week:  no spelling words, no school Friday so we will do library check-out on Wednesday)

  • Report cards came home today and so did spring pictures 🙂
  • Tomorrow: 1. flashlight read-in (small blanket, flashlight, and books from home can be brought in) 2.  Reading minutes are due!!!  3. spelling test  4. library check-out
  • Thank you for all the donations to make s’mores tomorrow – I have a feeling we are going to have enough reading minutes to enjoy them!!
  • No school on Friday, April 3rd.  Spring break, April 6-10.  Back to school on April 13th!
  • I am going to try to use the days before break next week for testing.  If your child is not bringing home their reading bag next week, they should still be reading!!!  You could always have them log-in to RAZ-Kids and read 🙂
  • Yesterday and today brought us more awesome guest readers.  A huge thank you to Mrs. Bower and Mr. Dwyer for coming in and sharing those stories!!!

  • My guess is that report cards will come home Thursday.  If we have a conference scheduled, I will hold on to the report card until we meet.
  • Friday is our flash-light read in.  Students may bring a flashlight, small blanket, and some books from home if they would like.  We will also hopefully have our s’mores – keep track of those reading minutes 🙂
  • Coming up:  On Tuesday, April 14th, we will have a field trip to the zoo!!  Permission slips will come home on Friday and be due back by April 2nd.  The cost per student is $5.25.  The cost per chaperone will be $5.00.  There is no limit to chaperones for this trip since you will be driving to the zoo and meeting us there.  Students will ride the bus.
  • We had a SUPER visit with our guest reader yesterday.  Thanks so much to Mr. Galvan for reading us a story about Policeman Lou, helping us remember our safety tips, and even letting us try to lift that heavy police vest you wear everyday.  It was a great start to our week 🙂

  • Spelling words for next week will be compound words:  football, everybody, grandmother, bedroom, downstairs, anything, playground, someone, sunshine, something  (no individual words)
  • We did a great job this week with our reading minutes!  Almost everyone returned their sheet.  As a class we read over 5,000 minutes!!!  The school is 56,000 minutes away from our S’more goal of 200,000.  We need to KEEP READING!!  I am going to prepare for Friday as if we are going to make it, so we will need some donations of graham crackers, Hershey chocolate bars and the Kraft Jet-puffed Marshmallow creme. If you are willing to donate, please sign-up by following this link:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A4FA5A929ABF85-smores
  • We had an awesome visit today from Ms. Wright who helped us make some volcanoes erupt!  (All the materials were kid-friendly)

  • Tonight at home, help your child brainstorm a list of 5 activities you might do while you are camping.  Have them carry the list in their pocket at school tomorrow for a chance to win a prize.

  • THANK YOU to Mrs. Gabrish for being our guest reader today!!  We talked her into reading us two stories 🙂

You may have already heard…

We had a spectacular visit today from the Dearborn High Football Team!! They were our first guest readers in March 🙂  The boys read to us for a while, then we got to ask questions and they talked to us about the importance of focusing on academics!!  We ended our time by doing one of their football chants with them and then taking a group picture…
