Camp Read-A-Lot

March is reading month starts Sunday 🙂  Everyone should have brought home a green packet to explain how things will work.  Students should keep track of the minutes they are reading every day and write it on the correct ticket (start at the bottom of the page with ‘week 1’).  This will be in place of the monthly reading calendar.  Please send each ticket back on Friday.  Students who read at least 120 minutes a week will be entered in a drawing to eat lunch with Mrs. Burch.  If you have any camping stories at home, feel free to send them in OR you can save them for yourself because on Monday, I will also be sending home an invitation for parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles to come into our room and read to us!!  We are looking forward to many fun activities this month!!!!

Looking Ahead…

  • Tomorrow we have a spelling test and red notebooks will be graded.  Please make sure your child has 4 activities completed (1 was done at school on Monday, 3 should have been done at home)
  • We are taking our Unit 6 Math Test tomorrow.  Nobody panic!  We did a review today that look pretty much exactly like the test.  We went through and discussed every question and shared strategies.  They did bring the review home, if you want to give them a few practice questions tonight.
  • Our music concert is next week, March 4th.  There will be a performance during the day for the school and then a 7:00 p.m. performance for parents.  Please do your very best to bring your child for the evening concert.
  • The book fair is coming next week.  We will visit on Monday to create our wish list and then again on Thursday to purchase books.  The book fair will also be open during the evening concert.
  • Coming in March…

I am so excited to start our March reading theme – Camp Read-A-Lot!!  We have some super activities planned 🙂

Reading

I am so happy to see that many of you are encouraging your student to log in to Raz-kids and do some reading.  I have sent out some messages and bonus stars to the students who have been active recently – have them log in and check it out 🙂

I did notice that some kids had logged in but hadn’t actually finished reading any stories, so try to make sure they do that.  If your child hasn’t tried it yet, go to Raz-kids.com and where it says teacher type in TurkL

Hi 🙂 I hope everyone is warm and cozy!  I just wanted to mention a couple of reminders:

  • Everyone’s 100th day project is due on Tuesday.  These are to be completed at home.  I am so excited to see them!
  • If you are sending in an item for our “gorp” snack, please send it in on Monday.
  • For the full details about these two 100th day activities, please visit the 100th day page on this blog. https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/turkl/100th-day-of-school/
  • There is a menu change for Monday.  First choice will be cheese quesadilla.
  • Our spelling words for next week are:  root, canoe, clue, chew, fruit.  Individual words will be given on Monday.
  • Our Valentine’s Day at school was great!  The party was super fun 🙂  A very big THANKS to all of our party volunteers and everyone who sent in items.  I was overwhelmed by the very thoughtful gifts the students brought to me that day.  I loved the flowers, brownies, yummy apple, movie snack kit, perfume, all the cards, and the delicious chocolate – THANK YOU!!       Here are a few pictures that I took during our party:

  • Red spelling notebooks are due tomorrow.  We did the pencil, marker, crayon activity together on Monday.  Everyone should have 3 more activities done – so that when I check notebooks tomorrow, they will have 4 total activities done.
  • Tomorrow is Pj’s-n-Pancakes 🙂  We will start about 9:30 and will probably only take about an hour to celebrate.
  • No School 2/16-2/20.
  • Menu change for 2/23:  First choice will be cheese quesadilla, second choice will be cheese pocket pizza.
  • The note for the 100th day of school went home yesterday.  If you didn’t see it, I have posted it on the blog.  Click on the 100th day of school page https://iblog.dearbornschools.org/turkl/100th-day-of-school/.   I also added some pictures of projects from last year.

Classroom News…

  • Spelling words for next week are:  shook, soot, could, should, crook.  There will be individual words also.  They have a new sheet of activities to try (it’s pink).  They can choose from the new sheet or the old one.  Starting this week, they will need to complete 1 activity in school on Monday with me, and then 3 more at home during the week.
  • Monday is our PBIS reward.  Students with 6 yellows or less, no blue, no red are able to attend the Talent Show put on by the 5th graders.  They are asking for $1 donation to help support the Ronald McDonald house.
  • We are celebrating Valentine’s Day on Friday at 9:30 with pjs-n-pancakes.  If your child is doing cards, please make sure they have one for every student in our class.  I sent a list of names home on Thursday, if you need another one, please let me know. I had a question about the $2 party donation, just to clarify, many of you have already sent in $10 to cover all the parties so this would not apply to you.
  • With a little help from our snow days, the 100th day of school will now fall after our winter break.  We don’t usually make a huge deal out of it, but each student will be asked to complete a project of 100 things and we will probably do a 100 item snack.  More details will follow next week 🙂
