We had an awesome day! We baked brownies, went to computer lab, did our book exchange, sang in the sing-a-long, and then watched Rudolph. We got in a little bit of spelling, reading, math, and gym, too 🙂 Here are some pictures from our party yesterday (that was great, too – thanks for all the help and donations) and from today’s activities, as well!! Enjoy your break!
Monthly Archives: December 2014
Busy, busy :)
We are jam packed with activities to keep us busy this week!
- Don’t forget tomorrow is our party! We will start around 2:00 with the craft. Then we will eat and decorate cookies 🙂
- Friday is our book exchange. Every student who brings a book will get a book. If you are unable to grab a book in time, please let me know.
- Howard is accepting donations of hats and gloves for the giving tree. If you would like to send in a pair, I will have your child take them down and put them on the tree.
- Friday afternoon is the school sing-a-long. Children with Hair Loss will be here. There are a few girls who are going to have their hair cut and donated to help the foundation make wigs for kids who are sick. They are still able to take more kids. You need to have 8 inches trimmed off in order to donate. I am encouraging Avery to participate, but we’ll see 😉
Fingers crossed…
…Raz-Kids should be back up and running! Please check it out and let me know if it is working for you. Thanks again to everyone who has sent in their $4 to help me cover the cost of the subscription 🙂
Also, next Friday is still open for a parent volunteer to help by taking small groups to the library for check-out. If you think you have the day open, here is the link to sign-up genius:

Finally, the review came back today for the Unit 4 math test on Monday (I called it Unit 3 yesterday, oops!). If you can, have your child practice problems similar to those on the review. Those story problems can be tricky if they don’t pay attention to all of the parts.
In the News…
- Tomorrow students are encouraged to wear something sports related and donate $1 to Howard for the PBIS store.
- A note came home today about our party next week. We will be celebrating on Thursday afternoon. If you haven’t done so yet, please send in $2 for the room parents to buy supplies.
- A math review came home today. These problems are examples of what students will see when we take the district Unit 3 test. We will go over the review tomorrow. Our test will most likely be Monday.
- THANK YOU to everyone who has already sent in $4 to cover the cost of the subscription to Raz-Kids. It should be back up and running tomorrow!
- Don’t forget next Friday is our book exchange. Everyone should bring in a new, wrapped book to participate. If you cannot get a new book, please let me know.
- Our buddies helped us make maps of the North Pole today 🙂
Tomorrow…
is late start, so students will come to school at 9:35!!
It is also our turn to shop at the Holiday Boutique! An envelope came home last week for you to fill out and put money in if your child is going to shop. If you don’t have the envelope, but want to shop, we will need a list of people they are buying for. If they are buying for sisters/brothers, please make sure you write down their age and name. Everything in the shop is $2.
On another note – All of the feedback I heard about Raz-Kids was positive 🙂 I am going to purchase the subscription so we can get back to using it. If we split the cost of the subscription by student, it is only $4 each. Anyone who is willing/able to send in $4 for your child’s subscription, it would be very much appreciated. Either way, I will still keep the whole class activated.
- Raz-Kids expires tomorrow! If you haven’t checked it out yet, please try it tonight. I have gotten very positive feedback so far 🙂
- Late Start next Wednesday, 12/10/14. Students start at 9:30 a.m.
- Spelling for the week of 12/8:
each which match dish with moth cash batch rich stitch
- In today’s folder: Science tests and Holiday Botique information. Spelling tests are graded and entered but did not make it into the folder…if you get curious before Monday, I have posted it in MiStar.
Don’t forget…
Science test tomorrow!! (see yesterday’s post about the learning goals)
Classroom News…
- Please turn in November reading calendars by Wednesday. They must be signed by a parent to receive their free pizza coupon.
- The RAZ-kids trial expires on the 8th of December. I know many kids told me today that they had tested it out. I would love to hear your feedback.
- The collection has started for canned goods. If you are able to donate a few, that would be great. The collection lasts this week only. Our class collected 12 cans today.
- SCIENCE QUIZ coming up on Wednesday. I listed the learning goals and a few examples of each just for ideas. It covers:
- properties of ice (solid, slippery, hard, cold) and water (liquid, room temperature, wet)
- ways we use water (cooking, swimming, cleaning, showers, watering plants)
- where we get our water (lakes, rivers, ponds, well, spring)
- On the 19th of December (last day of school before break) we will do a book exchange. Each student should bring in a new, wrapped book. It can be a picture book or a chapter book, but should be something you think a 2nd grader would like to read. If you cannot get a book, please let me know – I ordered a few extra from Scholastic this month just in case.
- Spelling words this week: chill, cheat, sheep, shine, think, this, while, whine, chase, chair
- We continue to have many students out with illness. Please keep your child at home if they have a temperature or are not feeling well. We will continue to try and keep our hands and tables clean so that we are not passing on germs.
