Classroom News…

  • Social Studies tests came home today!  Since these are tests given by the whole district, I need them back after you have had the chance to look at your child’s performance.
  • Hopefully, your child has shown you their book/bag for our reading groups.  These will come home most nights during the week.  Some nights they will just need to practice reading the story and talk to you about what is happening.  On other nights they may have questions to answer or a worksheet to complete that goes along with the story.  If they have writing to do it will be written down on the assignment sheet in their bag.
  • We are doing the math portion of our MAP testing tomorrow!
  • One of our students is missing a black, fleece Northface jacket.  I am guessing someone grabbed it by mistake because I have a black, fleece Polo jacket in the classroom that nobody is claiming.  Please check to see if your child brought home the Northface jacket by mistake so we can get it back to the correct owner.
  • DINOSAURS field trip – If you have volunteered to chaperone/drive, you MUST stop in the office and show your driver’s license, insurance, and registration.  You also need to make sure you are on the approved chaperone list for the school.  These are NOT things that can wait until the morning of the field trip!!!  Both of these things must be done at least a week before we go.
  • Almost everyone has turned in their money for both activities!!  Thank you for being so quick 🙂
  • Happy Birthday Yousef!!!

Classroom News…

  • Spelling test tomorrow!
  • Library check-out tomorrow – please make sure your child brings their books back so they can check out new ones.
  • Social Studies test on Monday!  Everyone brought home a paper-clipped stack of some of the work we have done to help us learn about communities.  Please use this to help your child study for the test.
  • We are pretty much in the middle of Unit 2 in Math.  The focus of this unit is to help students practice their simple math facts (ex:  2+5=7 or 3+6=9) so that they know these in their head.  Today everyone should have brought home math triangles to cut out.  Your child can use these as a way to practice.  Yesterday, I sent home some information about how to log your child in to the Xtra Math website – this is another way for them to get practice!!

I will still be working on time and money with everyone.

  • There will be official notes coming home about each of our upcoming programs/field trips, but I wanted to give you a heads up now since we will be needing each child to send in money for them.  The Dinosaurs field trip will cost $4, and the science program will cost $5.
  • Our first October birthdays!  HaPpY BiRtHdAy to Mia and Saleel 🙂

  • Math tests came home today!!!
  • I know I sent the grading scale home already, but I wanted to post it just as a refresher:

95-100% = 1 or “E” (exceeding)

80-94% = 2 or “M” (meeting)

70-79% = 3 or “P” (progressing)

0-69% = 4 or “C” (area of concern)

  • OCTOBER BEHAVIOR – the PBiS reward for the month of October is the Halloween Parade.  Students who do not earn the reward WILL NOT be able to join the school parade on Halloween.  Students may not have more than 6 yellows or 1 blue.  They may not have any red card flips at all.  As I’m sure you can guess, the parade is a big deal, there will be no exceptions – all of Howard school follows this guideline.
  • red spelling notebooks came home today and should be returned on Friday morning.  We did ‘happy faces’ together with our words this morning.  Everyone must do 2 more activities at home this week.  Our spelling test will be on Friday.
  • Tomorrow is our first day of testing…everybody go to bed early 🙂

  • Math homework today.  Math tests will be ready to send home next Tuesday.
  • Spelling tests came home today.  Just in case you want to get a head start…The words for next week are:  fox, lock, poke, pop, cone      challenge words:  October, minute, library
  • Our first day of MAP testing is next Wednesday.  Many of you have headphones already 🙂  Mr. Denison has purchased extras for the whole school to share, so if your child doesn’t have their own, they can borrow from the box.
  • We have 2 field trips coming up.  The first one is on October 24th and is actually ‘in-house’ so the company is coming to us.  This is a science based field trip and will cost $5.  The second trip is on November 14th.  For this trip we will need parent drivers.  We are headed to HFCC for a play.  The cost of this trip is $4.
  • Have a great holiday and long weekend 🙂

  • math homework tonight!
  • Spelling test TOMORROW.  Students should return their red spelling notebooks also.  They should have a total of at least 3 activities done – the first one we did together (sentences) and then they should have done 2 more at home.
  • Library book check-out will be tomorrow also.  Please make sure your child has their library books in their backpack.
  • Book-It calendar:  Today students brought home an October calendar with pumpkins on each day.  This is for the book-it program.  When your child reads 20 minutes or more, they can color in the pumpkin for that day.  Everyone’s calendar should come back to me on the first day of November.  If students have at least 26 pumpkins colored, they will earn a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
  • The headphones are rolling in 🙂  I am hoping everyone will have them by next Tuesday.
  • GO TIGERS!!!!!   Everyone can show their spirit by wearing Tigers stuff tomorrow.
