Our party was great!!! Thank you so much to everyone who donated something and to all of the parents who came in to help and visit 🙂 I truly appreciate the time many of you were able to give us today! I hope the rain stops and lets the kids enjoy trick or treating tonight! Have a great weekend!!
Monthly Archives: October 2014
Details, details…
The Halloween party and parade will be tomorrow afternoon. Students may not wear their costume to school. I know some kids are getting picked up for lunch, all others will put their costume on after lunch. The parade will be at 1:30 – unless it’s raining – in that case, the parade will be cancelled. Our party will start about 2:00, rain or shine!
Please remember that students may not wear masks, or anything “bloody” or “gory”, and may not bring weapons of any kind.
On another note, I was hoping that someone would be able to help out with an upcoming project. I need 27 turkeys traced on brown paper. I have the paper and the template. This can be done at home and brought back or you can do it at school. Let me know if you feel like tracing some turkeys 🙂
Is there anything better…
- The Halloween parade on Friday is at 1:30. Many parents pick their child up at lunch time to change them into their costume. If you would like to pick your child up, please make sure you sign them out in the office by about 11:55, then you can grab them as we are walking by the office 🙂 Please remember no masks or weapons are allowed! Our party will begin immediately following the parade.
- We will have a short math test on Wednesday. The test covers odd/even numbers, basic addition and subtraction, and simple story problems.
- HaPpY BiRtHdAy Elizabeth!!
Happy Friday :)
Today we had our first two SUPERHEROES!!! Congrats to Dema and David for being exceptional listeners and kind friends!
Our visit from the scientist was a ton of fun – just ask your 2nd grader, they’ll tell you all about it 😉 We were very authentic and totally awesome in our science glasses!! Thank you to Trevor’s mom for donating those!
Spelling words for next week are: main, sail, hay, stay, wait
Challenge words are: hypothesis, matter, mass
Busy, busy…
Homework
Everybody has 3 things tonight – that is a little bit more than I like to give, but none of it should be overwhelming.
- Everyone brought home a math link tonight – only 1 side this time 😉
- Reading bags came home. I met with 5 groups today and gave them each a writing assignment, but I will not see them again until Friday, so they actually have 2 nights to complete it. If I didn’t meet with your child’s group today, have them reread for fluency tonight – I will meet with them tomorrow and they will get a writing assignment to go with their book.
- Science: I sent home a brown bag with a small paper attached. Our learning goal is to be able to describe an object’s properties. So, for homework, I asked students to choose an object from home and put it in the bag. Then, on the paper, write 3 properties of their object. Tomorrow we will play a game 🙂
Here’s a peek at a few students helping to lead our Math Focus board today…
- Math homework today!
- We have started reading groups and I am working hard to get to as many groups as I can each day. However, I may not get to every group every single day. Today I met with 5 groups out of the 7 groups that we have. Every child has brought home their reading bag – even if I did not get to see them, students should still be rereading their book each night to improve their fluency and comprehension.
- Our homeroom parents would like me to gently remind you that they are accepting money donations for the classroom parties. You can just send in $2 for our upcoming Halloween party – or you can send in $10 to cover them all.
- For those of you that haven’t heard, our new principal was announced at last night’s board meeting. We are happy to welcome Mrs. Martha Burch as Howard’s new principal. Mrs. Burch will not be officially starting at Howard until Monday, November 3rd – although she may be popping in and out before that.
Classroom News…
- We still have about 5 students who need to turn in their money for the field trip and Science assembly. Please try to do this Monday!
- I will send a note home on Monday to all of the chaperones for this field trip just to verify information.
- If you haven’t returned the Social Studies test yet, please do so Monday.
- Spelling tests came home today. The new words are posted on the spelling page of this blog.
- If you see your child has more than a few “yellows” on their behavior calendar, please remind them that the reward this month is the Halloween Parade. Students who have more than 6 yellows or 1 blue will not be allowed to participate in the parade.
Friday…
- Spelling test tomorrow! Red spelling notebooks are due also.
- Library check-out is tomorrow also – please make sure your child brings their library books back.
- Everyone has reading homework tonight that is due tomorrow 🙂
