Monthly Archives: September 2014

  • I posted this week’s spelling words on the spelling page of the blog.  Go to the home page and then click the word spelling (in purple) at the top of the page towards the right.
  • Don’t forget…math test tomorrow!
  • Thank You!  I was so excited to see some students bring in headphones today!!  These will be a great help during testing and when we visit the computer lab for class.  You can still send them in – please put them in a ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name.
  • Fundraiser packets came home today.  The students will watch a video tomorrow that gives them more information.  If you have any questions, just ask!
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREVOR!!!  He was our only September birthday 🙂

In the News…

  • Spelling tests came home in today’s folder 🙂
  • We have a math test coming up next week.  It’s looking like we will take Monday to review and then have our test on Tuesday.  I attached a picture of the pretest so you can see what is covered.  Telling time and counting money will also be tested on Tuesday but they are not shown on the pretest.  Grade+2++PRE+Test+Unit+1
  • Headphones?  We have some new district testing that is coming up soon (the week of October 6th).  These tests will take place on the computer.  For grades K-2 part of the test is read out loud to the students.  I am thinking that it would probably be a HUGE help to your student’s success if they had a pair of headphones to use.  I know you can find the full headphones at 5 Below and I am pretty sure the dollar store has ear buds. Please choose whichever kind is most comfortable for your child to wear.  If you are able to get some, please send these to school in a ziploc bag labeled with your child’s name.
  • I KNEW IT!!!  I printed our schedule for you and now it has changed.  I will send home new labels so you can stick it over the old label.  The most important difference is that PE moved from Tuesday – it is now on Wednesday and Friday.
  • LATE START on Wednesday, October 1st.
  • NO SCHOOL on Friday, October 3rd and Monday, October 6th.

Homework – Tuesday

Everyone brought home math homework today (clocks).  Please do this tonight and have students bring it back tomorrow!!

SOME students brought home social studies also (if they didn’t finish in class).  We brainstormed a list of things in our community and then used the list to fill in the boxes on the web.  If they didn’t have 5 things in each box, they brought the sheet home.  Here is a picture of our list – they can use it to finish filling in, OR they can just come up with a few things of their own to fill in the boxes.

*******Also in today’s Home Folder (on the keep at home side) was a math quiz (money) and the sticker with our daily schedule printed on it…

  • We glued new spelling words into our red notebooks today.  Everyone started doing the “star” words activity (2 times each word), if they didn’t finish in class, they should be finishing that at home.    During the week, they must also complete 2 more activities.  By Friday morning when I check their notebooks, all students must have 3 activities completed.
  • THANK YOU to the families who bought a book from the book fair and donated it to our classroom.  We LOVE new books 🙂

Thank You :)

Thank you so much for attending Open House last night!  Our room was very busy and I loved every second of it!!  I really appreciate you supporting your student in completing a few rows on their BINGO board 🙂   If you didn’t get a chance to sign up for conferences last night, I will let you know the open time slots when it gets a little closer to the actual dates and we can figure out something that works for you.

A few other notes:

  • We visit the book fair on Monday to purchase books.
  • This week’s Spelling Test came home in today’s folder.
  • Unit 1 in Math has a lot of different skills in it – many of them are review.  Two of the skills that are our main focus are counting coins and telling time.  Please take every opportunity you have to help your child practice this at home!
  • If you still have your yellow parent information flip book, you are probably waiting for our schedule to fill in that empty spot.  I have printed off a sticker with our schedule on it and will send that home next week (now that I’ve printed it, I am sure it will change ;).  For those of you that don’t  want to wait for the sticker:

Monday – Music  12:20-1:35

Tuesday – Media  10:40-11:25,  12:50-1:35 PE (wear gym shoes)

Wednesday – Art 1:40-2:25

Thursday – Music 10:40-11:25

Friday – 11:20-11:55  Library check-out, 2:30-3:15 PE (wear gym shoes)

The best laid plans…

I had this grand idea that I would post to our blog last night while I waited for Avery to finish her dance class – silly me 🙁  For whatever reason, it kept telling me that my password was invalid.  I greatly apologize!!!

My post was just going to remind you that tonight is Open House at 6:00 p.m.  Mr. Denison will have a meeting with parents at 7:00 p.m.

Again, I am so sorry for the late reminder.

Spelling

Red spelling notebooks should be coming home today with our new words glued to the top of the page.  This week’s words are:  dog, went, bun, job, tub, pet, (challenge words:  special, friend)

Students should have already completed the rainbow words activity in class today.  If they didn’t finish in class, it should be finished at home.  Everyone must complete at least 2 more (different than rainbow words) activities at home in their notebook and return them to school on Friday.

As I walked around last week and checked notebooks, we talked about neatness and spacing.  I showed them some examples of what it could look like and I snapped a few pictures for you 🙂

Happy Friday :)

  • Monday is Picture Day!!!!
  • Spelling Tests came home in today’s red folder.
  • Tremendous THANKS to Nigel’s mom and Casimir’s mom for helping us decorate our Work on Writing notebooks today!  We could have never gotten that much done without them 🙂
  • We checked out library books today.  Yesterday and today we talked about picking books that are ‘just right’…a ‘just right’ book is one where they can read most of the words and can talk about the story at the end of each page.  Please take a look at your child’s choices and talk about why they are (or aren’t) the best choice for them.
  • Students are welcome to bring in a few favorite books from home to put in their book boxes for read to self.

  • more math homework tonight – make sure you do both sides…
  • Spelling homework is due tomorrow.  Each child should have at least 3 activities done with this week’s words.  We did pyramid words together on Monday, then they should have done at least 2 different activities at home.  Please make sure the red spelling notebook comes to school tomorrow morning!
  • We are decorating our notebooks tomorrow.  If you haven’t sent in pictures yet, please do so tomorrow.
  • Tomorrow is also library check-out:  if you checked out books over the summer, please make sure you bring them back tomorrow or you will not be able to get any new books.
  • We are really focusing on being great listeners…we  have been discussing having our eyes on the person speaking and our body still so that our mind can process what is being said and the directions being given.  You can help us by giving your child a small pep talk about how important it is that they are focused on listening to directions.
  • OPEN HOUSE is next week on Thursday, September 18th 🙂  I am super excited to meet everyone!!
