• Thursday, June 5th is our picnic from 11:30-1:30.  We will be at the park next to school.  Students will need to bring their lunch!  The second grade room parents will be coordinating some treats and activities.
• Monday, June 9th is field day.  We will be outside for much of the morning.  Please make sure your child brings a water bottle with their name on it, and apply sunscreen before they leave the house.
• MAY READING CALENDARS are due on Monday.  Students who have read at least 400 minutes in April and May (and turned in their calendars) will attend a pizza treat on June 10th.
• Last day of school is Thursday, June 12th.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45.
• Tremendous THANKS to all the parents who have chaperoned our last two field trips 🙂

We had 2 special events today!!  For our monthly PBiS reward we watched the Dearborn High School Band and then we got to make SLIME…

Don’t forget tomorrow we are headed to the metropark for a pond study, hiking, and from what I have been told, there is also a barn with baby animals – can’t wait 🙂

Remember all students need a bag lunch and comfortable clothes/shoes!

• TOMORROW is the trip to the Dearborn Historical Museum.  If you are a chaperone, please meet in the classroom around 8:50.  Remember, you will need to drive yourself to the museum since there is not enough room on the bus.  We will be back in time for students to eat lunch with their normal routine.
• No spelling words this week.
• Boy scouts picnic at Lindbergh is tonight at 6:00 if you are interested in joining their pack in the fall.
• GREEN permission slips for next week’s field trip need to be turned in tomorrow or Wednesday.
• We saw some pretty cool animals in an assembly today! (That tarantula was only a baby!!!)   Here are a few pictures:

• GREEN Permission slips for our May 27th field trip to Kensington Metro Park came home today.
• Please make sure your child makes some progress with their reading activities.  They will meet with their reading “buddy” on Monday to discuss what they have accomplished so far.

• PINK permission slips are due TOMORROW!  I will send home a note to the chaperones in tomorrow’s homework folder.
• Everyone now has a new chapter book for reading.  They also have a buddy with the same book.  All the activities should be completed by next Thursday.
• No school on Friday, May 23rd and Monday, May 26th.
• Our field trip to Kensington Metro Park will be on Tuesday, May 27th.  Permisssion slips will come home in tomorrow’s folder – this one is GREEN and should be returned by Tuesday.

• Everyone brought home a brown bag today.  They are to choose 1 object to put in the bag.  Tomorrow for science we will pass the bags around and practice describing the properties of the object (matter).  It can be anything (examples:  tennis ball, paperclip, rock, sandpaper), but I prefer that it not be food.
• We have a few more field trips coming up (one of them is next week).  If you are thinking about being a chaperone for one of these, please stop in the office and make sure you are on the approved volunteer list.  Only parents on the list are able to go with us.
• When the temperature gets warmer, our room gets warmer.  Students are encouraged to have a water bottle at school with them, but please make sure it has a lid.  The water bottles with the built in straws work the best because even if they get knocked over they don’t spill.
• The boy scout troop at Lindbergh is inviting Howard boys to join their pack in the fall.  If your son is interested in joining Boy Scout Pack 1116 at Lindbergh, there is a picnic on May 19th at 6 p.m. at Lindbergh to welcome you and answer any of your questions.
• TOMORROW IS LATE START!

Today’s “favorite things” gift basket was awesome…THANK YOU!!  I am so thankful for all the warm thoughts, cards, and flowers throughout the week, too 🙂  You guys are the best!

P.S.  We were very busy today getting Mother’s Day gifts and cards all set so our spelling test got pushed to Monday.
