- I can’t wait for Monday to see everyone’s 100’s day poster 🙂
Monthly Archives: February 2014
- Tomorrow is hat day. Â Students can pay $1 to wear a hat. Â The money will be donated towards items for the PBiS store.
- March is reading month information is coming home tomorrow.
- 100’s day projects are due Monday. Â Whatever they are choosing to create, remind them that they need to organize their items into equal groups or an array. Â For example, one student wanted to create a gumball machine and use round colored stickers for 100 gumballs. Â This is a great idea, just make sure the gumballs are grouped in some way (color? Â size?). Â Another student wanted to make a poster with 100 pieces of popcorn – great idea – maybe make some popcorn spilling out of the box in 4 groups of 20 with 20 pieces still in the box? Â Send me a message if you have any questions or concerns.
- 100’s day “gorp”…please try to send in a bag of one of the suggested items
- A big THANKS to Saad’s mom and Adam’s mom for helping out by providing brown lunch bags for our project yesterday 🙂
- In SCIENCE today we were comparing ice and water – it was pretty exciting 🙂  Here are a few pics:
I sent home some information about 100’s Day (Monday, March 3) in the folder today. Â Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions.
Friday is hat day. Â Students can pay $1 to wear a hat to school.
MARCH IS READING MONTH! Â Keep an eye out for a letter and calendar about events for the month.
The word of the day today was EMPATHY – ask about it over dinner 🙂
Spelling words: Â Since we didn’t do spelling the week before break, I am combining the district words for the last 2 weeks. Â Each student is bringing home the same 10 words. Â I asked them to complete 3 activities for homework this week in their red notebook. Â A few of them have asked for some different ideas to do with their spelling words, so I will gather some new ideas and post them on the spelling page within the next few days.
Donation: We have an activity coming up on Wednesday that requires those brown lunch bags (or white is okay too). Â If anyone is willing and able to send a package of those in, that would be extremely helpful.
Here are a few pics of the students playing “Scoot” today during math.
Pics!
The week of 2/10:
- We took our spelling test today. Â There will be no new spelling words this week.
- January PBIS reward is a game day. Â We will spend about an hour on Wednesday afternoon playing our board games. Â Students are more than welcome to bring in a game to play with friends. Â Everyone gets to participate in this reward. Â No electronics, please.
- Friday 2/14:  Happy Valentine’s Day 🙂  We will start our craft around 2:00ish and then enjoy our snacks and pass out valentine cards.  If your child is passing out cards, please make sure they have one for each student in our class – if you need another list of names, just let me know.
- hard to believe….2/17-21 is WINTER BREAK…
Buddies!
This Week in the News…
Happy Monday 🙂  I am VERY much looking forward to an actual full week of school so we can get back into our groove!!!
Report cards came home today!!!! Â Please check your child’s home folder – it is on yellow paper.
TOMORROW –Â is class color day. Â Our class voted to wear BLUE.
Book It –Â I sent the February calendar home today, but it looks different than the previous ones. Â This month instead of counting days, we will be counting minutes. Â So every day your child reads, please write in the number of minutes they read. Â I did an example on the calendar. Â You DO NOT have to sign the calendar every day, but please try to sign at the end of every week where they total up the minutes. Â To earn their free pizza certificate, we are looking for a total of 400 minutes for the whole month. Â Before you send it back in at the end of the month, please add up your child’s minutes for the whole month and write it on the calendar.
Don’t forget to send back January calendars. Â They need 21 days colored to earn their free pizza certificate.
Spelling –Â For some reason there were 6 pattern words this week (back, duck, pick, dock, deck, lack), so your child only chose 4 words of their own.
I thought they did an EXCELLENT job last Friday doing our spelling test the new way 🙂
Valentine’s Day –Â I know it is still 11 days away, but Yasmeen was talking about going shopping tonight to buy her cards, lol, so just in case anybody else wanted to get a head start on Valentine cards I sent home a class list of our students on green paper. Â If your child is planning to pass out cards, I let them know that they must have one for every student in our room – so they can use the list to address their cards.
We will have a very low key celebration on Valentine’s Day.  I am still recovering from Birthday Bash 😉  We are planning a craft (with our left over money), a snack, and on passing out cards.  I will also be looking for a few families to send in cookies or juice – but that can wait until it gets closer.
January PBiS reward – EVERY student in our classroom has earned the January behavior reward.  That means that nobody flipped their card to yellow more than 5 times this month.  This is actually the 4th month (out of 5)  that everybody has gotten to be a part of the behavior celebration – we are just that awesome 🙂
Here are some pics of the Mad Science assembly we enjoyed this morning:
