Turkey is in Trouble!

I was so excited to read the story Turkey Trouble and send Turkey home with your child today! We brainstormed many ideas as a group for how to disguise him. I am posting a picture of our ideas. I am also posting some examples of turkeys done in the past.

Turkeys should be back to school in disguise by Wednesday, November 13th. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Don’t forget…

tomorrow, Friday, November 8th is a 1/2 day!!!  Students will be dismissed at 11:45 🙂

Students worked on their leaf projects today and they really did an excellent job.  A HUGE thank you to Adam’s mom for helping us out this morning!!!

KEEP AN EYE OUT for the next project coming home – I am so excited for this one!!  It links in with one of my favorite books 🙂   It will come home tomorrow but will not be due back until next Wednesday.  This is a project that students will complete AT HOME with your help…I can’t wait to see the finished results 🙂

Leaf Project

Only 2 students brought in leaves today to do their project with.  If your child is planning on bringing in leaves, Thursday will be the last day for bringing them in.  We will create our animals during the day.

If I have a parent out there who would be willing to come in and assist the students in creating their leaf projects on Thursday, that would be so helpful.  Please email me at TurkL@dearbornschools.org   or just comment on this post and let me know.  I am flexible on the time.

I am told that this is a project 2nd grade does every year.  I would like to be able to hang our projects in the hallway along with the other second grades.

Here are some examples from the book:

In the News…

No School on this Tuesday, November 5th!!

1/2 day for students on Friday, November 8th.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45.

Science Test coming up next week.   We will review on Monday and students will be tested on Thursday.  This test will cover the 3 standards that go on the report card:  1.  what living things need to survive  2.  the life cycle of a plant  3.  that new plants will have the same traits as the adult plant the seed came from (same fruit, same leaves, same color)

November reading calendars came home today.  To earn their “book-it” certificate, students need to have at least 18 turkeys colored by the end of the month.  I am still collecting October calendars on Monday if your child didn’t have theirs today.

No book bags yesterday or today.  Everyone will get a new book on Monday.

Next week’s spelling words will come home on Monday.  The pattern words will be boat, float, cloak, oat, toad.

Have a great weekend!!
