HALLOWEEN :)
Halloween Parade Update
Due to the rain, Mr. Denison has cancelled our Halloween Parade 🙁
Students will still be dressing up in the classroom and we will enjoy a few treats and games.
10/28 News…
Wow, there is A LOT going on!
NO SCHOOL – Tuesday, November 5th (all day)
Friday, November 8th is a half day for students – dismissal is at 11:45 that day.
Conferences – I have sent notes home today to remind you of your child’s conference time. If you did not sign up for a conference at Open House, you should have gotten a note today that tells you my open time slots. Please choose two or three and return the note to me, then I will send home another note giving you your official time slot.
Halloween Party – the parade is Thursday at 1:30. We will be having a small celebration in our room following the parade. Some families have been asked to donate supplies, please let me know as soon as possible if you cannot donate the items or if you need any help.
Math Test Grade
The last math test is in today’s folder. Somehow I didn’t realize that the report card now uses numbers instead of letters, so I used the old system (E=exceeds, M=meets, P=progressing, AC=area of concern) – sorry! Here is the number system for grading:
1 = Masters Expectations (95-100%)
2 = Meets Expectations (80-94%)
3 = Progressing (70-79%)
4 = Area of Concern (0-69%)
Please look over your child’s test, sign it, and return it on Monday. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email!
Busy! Busy!
Wow! We have been super busy this week and next week will be just as busy with Halloween! I am waiting for information on costumes and the parade, but a note is coming home tomorrow from our homeroom mom, Mrs. Lahay, that gives more information about the party next Thursday.
Also coming home tomorrow is everyone’s first Math test. Thank you for being so patient. There is a score sheet attached to the front of the test that breaks down how they did on each report card skill. Please sign this sheet so that I know you saw their test and send the paper and the test back to school on Monday.
We created pumpkin life cycles and labeled them during science this week and also wrote facts about plants.
For writing, we are starting to write an opinion piece. We are starting with something I figured we all have opinions about…FOOD! Today we taste-tested some snacks and then started planning our writing, “The Best Snack!”
Here are a few pictures …
Happy Birthday!
OOPS!
We forgot to leave enough time to glue our spelling words for this week into our notebook. Here they are:
fly my try funny buddy history past present future family
We will glue these into our notebooks tomorrow morning. The test will still be Friday.
Welcome Back!!
It was so nice to see everyone’s smiling faces back today!! Just a few notes:
- Spelling tests from last Friday are coming home in today’s homework folder. Please take a peek. New words will come home on Monday.
- A few students have brought home reading bags already, but by tomorrow EVERY student should be bringing a reading bag home with them. Inside the bag is a folder with directions and a book (or a few books). Please listen to your child read their book. If they have a longer book, they don’t have to read it all in one night. If they have more than one book, they should choose 2 or 3 to read to you, but they don’t have to read every single one every night. On some nights, there will also be a worksheet or activity to do with the book. Please make sure the bag is returned to school everyday.
- Fundraiser stuff is due back tomorrow!!
- We missed some birthdays over the break so we celebrated today 🙂 Check out their pics below…
Today in Math, we took a timed test on simple addition facts. We discussed the importance of being able to do them “in a snap” (as Nadia said). We also made flash cards to use in the classroom for practice, but it would be a huge help to your child if you helped them practice at home.
If you can, our classroom needs sandwich size ziploc bags and baby wipes! Donations of black dry erase markers are always helpful, too.
To get in the mood of the season, we worked on SUPER CUTE bat glyphs today!!!
