Our class has started to focus on character analysis.  We looked at what it means to compare and contrast in class today.  Throughout the course of this week, we will be comparing what Jonas is like before he becomes The Receiver to after.  I have added the powerpoint the students looked at today as well as the youtube video to this blog post.

Today was also our library day.  All of the students should have new good fit books as long as they have no late fines.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today the students reviewed conflict.  We also used our knowledge of conflict to identify various problems in The Giver.  The students will be using these problems to create a fake instagram post.  They are working on a rough draft of this post over the weekend.  They are required to finish the rough draft and find two school appropriate pictures to use on their final drafts Monday.  I will provide them with final draft paper at that time.  This is not an actual instagram post and students will not be required to post anything to actual instagram accounts.  We are simply using the instagram format/layout to create our final projects.  I have added a copy of the rough draft to this blog post as well as the example.

The students were also given time to work with the new vocabulary words on our word wall.  I have added pictures of the new word wall to this blog post.

Have a great weekend!

Today in Language Arts the students created a new word wall.  I will have pictures up by the end of the day on Thursday.  It was also our library day.  Each student should have plenty of books for the long weekend.  With the remainder of our class time, we discussed the falling action and resolution of The Giver.  Next Friday we will be watching the movie that goes along with this book.  I have sent home a permission slip with your child.   If I do not get this permission slip back by Thursday, an alternate activity will be created for your child.

Chapters 16 through 18 Questions

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Today in Language Arts, the students participated in a memory transmission simulation. They were given five historical events in the United States that they needed to identify based on the description.  Once the historical event was identified, the students determined if this would be an important memory for people in the future to know about.  They also explained why they felt this way.  For the last 45 minutes of class, the students took their vocabulary test.
