Today in Language Arts the students focused on the figurative language in chapters three through six of The Giver.  They also continued working on their milestones sheet. Then, the  students spent time in their literature circles focusing on the guided questions for chapters four, five, and six.  Lastly, the students were assigned to read chapter seven for homework if they did not finish it in class.

In Language Arts today the students continued to focus on The Giver.  We began identifying events that have taken place in the rising action of the story. We also reviewed the community job and milestones sheets.

Today was also our library.  The students will make two more trips to the library for this school year.

In Language Arts today the students discussed chapter three.  They also worked on the milestone and job chart for The Giver.  Lastly, they were given time to read chapters four and five.  Anything that was not completed in class is homework that is due on Monday.

The students were also given time to take their vocabulary tests.  I will have grades updated and posted for fifth marking period by the end of the day today.

Today in Language Arts the students reviewed the exposition of The Giver.  The also got into their literature circles to identify figurative language within the first few chapters and read chapter three.

The students were also given time during Daily 5 to work on Lesson Three in their vocabulary books.

In Language Arts today the students met in their literature circles.  This will be the groups the students are working in for the remainder of this unit.  While meeting, they discussed chapter one and began chapter two of The Giver.

All core subjects were shortened today due to MSTEP testing.  The same scenario will occur tomorrow.  Many of the students in class are on different tasks because of the testing they have been dong recently.  During class today the students were given time to catch up things they needed to work on in class since the marking period is ending this Friday.

Due to the testing, I had to take down our beautiful student-made Figurative Language and Genre boards.  I have added pictures to this blog post for everyone to admire their hard work identifying these story elements this year.

In Language Arts today the students took their Language NWEA test.  They were also given time to turn in their reading logs.

I am currently in the process of grading the cause and effect essays.  I will have them completed by Thursday evening. Remember, the end of the marking period is this Friday.

Today in Language Arts the students took the Reading NWEA test. On Monday they will take the Language test.  Since the reading test typically takes students longer, I am allowing students to turn reading logs in on Monday.

In Language Arts today the students began to understand the focus of The Giver.  We predicted what the mood and tone of the story might be like based upon two activities that we participated in in class.  The students also continued to learn about conjunctions.

Tonight is Math and Literacy Night!  Come up to school with your family between 6:00 and 7:30 to participate in Math and Literacy activities!  We will have games and fun prizes to win too. I hope to see you tonight!

In Language Arts today the students finished peer editing their cause and effect essay.  Final drafts of the essay are due tomorrow.
