In Language Arts today the students completed the rising action on their pyramid of action.  They also answered the chapters seventeen and eighteen questions.  The students were then given time to read the climax of the story, chapters seventeen and eighteen.

In Language Arts today the students answered the chapters fifteen and sixteen questions.  They also identified figurative language in the chapters and added it to our figurative language board.  The students were also given time to read chapters seventeen and eighteen as well as work on their vocabulary words.

In Language Arts today the students reflected on major moments in our society and how they have impacted the world we live in.  This was done by “sharing” the memories just as Jonas experiences them in The Giver.

The students were also given time to read chapters fifteen and sixteen in class.  If they did not complete this task, it is homework to be completed for Monday.

Today in Language Arts, the students identified the genre of The Giver.  They also completed a constructed response focusing on the genre of the novel in their reading interactive notebooks.

The students were given time to work in their literature circles completing the chapter thirteen questions as well as reading chapter fourteen.

In Language Arts today the students participated in the Ceremony of Twelves.  They were taken to the auditorium and called on stage to experience how Jonas and the other twelve-year-old children felt during the ceremony.

They also spent time in their literature circles reviewing chapters eight and nine then reading chapters ten and eleven.  Anything that was not finished at the end of class is homework due on Monday.

In Language Arts today the students worked on their Ceremony of Twelve activity.  Tomorrow we will participate in the Ceremony of Twelve in the auditorium.

The students also spent time identifying the author’s purpose for writing The Giver.  In their literature circles, they spent time completing the milestones and characterization note sheets.  They also read chapters eight and nine of The Giver.  Anything that wasn’t completed in class is homework.

In Language Arts today the students discussed chapter seven of The Giver.  We talked about how the suspense within the story is building and predicted why Jonas was not called to receive his life assignment.

The students also began characterizing what Jonas is like as a character, they completed a precision of language activity that corresponds with the story, and they updated their milestones sheet.
