The students were also introduced to the different types of genres within a story and they were given time to write their article of the week response in class.  I have added the anchor chart for the response to this blog post.

In Language Arts today the students created an interactive word wall and presented it to the class.  I will be posting the word wall to tomorrow’s post.

The students were also given time to review the five parts of the pyramid of action and the components of each area.

Now that everyone has taken the grammar quiz, the studnets were given the quiz back in class to look at their scores, although quiz scores have been posted since the day the quiz was given. If anyone is interested in a retake, the only one I will be offering is tomorrow morning at 7:30. Here is the retake criteria:

  • Have no missing assignments from the grammar unit starting on October 28th
  • Have the quiz signed by a parent/guardian
  • Write a reflection and staple it to the back of your orignial quiz answering all of the following questions. This reflection should be AT LEAST six sentences in length.
  • Why do you deserve a retake?
  • What did you do incorrectly on the original test?
  • How will you do better next time?

Remember, tomorrow is the end of second marking and I will be posting grades at 3:05. At this point, I have graded everything I have been given and grades are completely up to date.  Tomorrow I will be adding the points for the Reading Log for this week as well as Read Theory. Today I will be grading Writing Interactive Notebooks. These are the last three grades that will be going on the marking period.

Since the AOTW Response is not due until Monday, it will be the first grade on the new marking period.

Have a nice evening!

In Language Arts today the students learned about the pyramid of action.  We discussed the five areas of the pyramid of action, what they mean, and putting events in a story in sequential order.

The students also spent time organizing their reading and writing interactive notebooks.  I checked the reading notebooks today since most of our work from this unit has taken place in our writing notebooks.  I will be collecting these for grading tomorrow.

Lastly, the students created a master word list of words they do not know for the story, The School Play.  We will be creating our next interactive word wall tomorrow.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today the students continued to learn about story vocabulary.  They practiced identifying different elements of story vocabulary using the text, Little Red Riding Hood.

The students also read their article of the week.  We then got into a circle and discussed whether or not it is appropriate for movie characters to be portrayed by actors who have the same cultural background the characters do. The students were then assigned their CER response that corresponds with the article.  This assignment will be due on Monday and it will be the first grade on the new marking period.

Lastly, the students worked with the other people at their table to create a master word list from the story, The School Play.

Have a great evening!

Welcome back!

In Language Arts today the students were given their article of the week.  Today they focused on identifying and reading the text features to predict what the article is going to be about.

The students also began to learn about story vocabulary.  At this point in the year, our primary focus will be learning about elements of a fictional story.

Lastly, the students spent time hovering for words they do not know in the story, The School Play.  We will be reading this story later on in the week.

The end of the 2nd marking is this Friday.  All late work was due last Tuesday, November 22nd.  At this point, the only assignment I will be accepting is the argumentative essay. I have graded 4th hour’s essays and I will have the rest done by the end of the week.  I would encourage all families to check student/parent connect to see where students are at in their classes for the marking. If families are concerned or have questions, please have a conversation with your child prior to emailing the teacher.  We are happy to help but at Bryant, we encourage the students to advocate for themselves.  This means being held accountable for their missing or late assignments.  This also builds responsibility and organization skills within the children.

Have a great evening!
