Today in Language Arts the students spent time reviewing figurative language, story devices, All Summer in a Day, and The Jacket by playing jeopardy.

They also spent time continuing to learn about adjectives.

Today was also our library day so the students spent time selecting their good fit books.

Since we had a half day on Monday, we will be testing tomorrow, and taking the district writing prompt on Thursday and Friday, the students were not given an article of the week this week.

In Language Arts today the students spent time presenting their figurative language projects. This is the first summative grade on the new marking period.

The students were also given time to write their reading log responses during class.  This reading log is the first formative grade on the new marking period. They will also have a reading log due on Friday.

In Language Arts today the students spent time reviewing The Jacket, which they read in class yesterday.  While reviewing, we added examples of figurative language in the story to the figurative language board.

The students were also introduced to their figurative language project. For this project, they were given several options of finding or creating figurative language.  The directions were sent home with students today. This project will be due at the end of class on Thursday.

This will be my last blog post for the week because the students will be NWEA testing tomorrow and Thursday. Friday is our school spirit day and the students will be in the gym during the half day.

In Language Arts today the students participated in a gallery walk where they went around the room, looked at very short stories, and identified the figurative language within them.

The students also spent time reading their article of the week (AOTW) and learning about adjectives.  Since we had a short week and NWEA testing will be taking place next week, I am not requiring students to have the AOTW response written until next Thursday.

Today in Langauge Arts the students continued to learn about inferencing by practicing their skills with a few scenes from the show, Smallville.

The students also continued to learn about figurative language by analyzing the figurative language used in song lyrics.

Lastly, the students spent time reviewing conjunctions, when to use them, and how they are used in writing.

In Language Arts today the students learned about the last two types of figurative language we will be focusing on this year, idioms and allusions. Tomorrow the students will start applying what they have learned to texts.

The students also spent time reviewing inferencing and applying it to text examples. We will continue practicing our inferencing skills throughout the week.

Today in Language Arts the students continued to learn about figurative language by focusing on symbolism and alliteration.

The students were also given time to fill out their reading log response and write the final draft for their letter of complaint.  The letter will be a summative grade and final drafts are due on Tuesday.

Lastly, the students spent time reviewing the parts of speech.

In Language Arts today the students continued to learn about figurative language by focusing on hyperbole and onomatopoeia.

The students also spent time peer editing the rough drafts of their letter of complaint. Final drafts will be due on Tuesday and the students will be given time in class tomorrow to work on typing their final drafts.

  • We will be NWEA Testing on Wednesday, January 25th and Thursday, January 26th.
  • Starting Second Semester, we will be reading Tuck Everlasting. We have school copies available for students but anyone who would like to have their own copy to keep can buy one for $1.00. The money is due on Friday, January 20th since we will be placing a bulk order for the students.
  • Progress Reports for 3rd Marking in Language Arts went home today.  If your child has a 70% or lower in Language Arts, they were sent home from school with a progress report.  Please ask your child if they received one.
