Today in Language Arts the students went to the library to pick out new good fit books.

The students also spent time peer editing their personal narratives for word choice and fluency.

Lastly, the students were assigned a project on the setting of Tuck Everlasting.  Throughout the remainder of the week, the students will be creating a map of the village of Treegap. They must use six piece of textual evidence to support their thinking.  This will be due at the beginning of class on Friday. Today they began gathering textual evidence for their map.

Have a great evening and a happy Valentine’s Day!

Personal Narrative Requirements

Wednesday, February 8, 2017

In Language Arts today the students spent time selecting a topic for their personal narrative and writing all of the events in that took place on a pyramid of action.

The students also spent time reading the prefix and first two chapters of Tuck Everlasting.  The students who did not finish reading in class were given a book to check out and take home to finish reading for homework.

Lastly, the students spent time reflecting on how they have grown as readers and writers using their portfolio.

The figurative language test was given back to students today and we went over it in class. Any student who is interested in retaking the test must have no missing assignments and they must write a reflection as to why they did not do well on the test.  They must bring this reflection stapled to their original test.  Additionally, the original test must be signed by a parent or guardian. Retakes will be taking place tomorrow after school at 3:00 pm and Friday before school at 7:15 am.  Students must have the required materials and signed up in class to retake the test or they will not be allowed to retake the test.

Reflection:

Why do you feel that you did not do well on this test? Why do you deserve to retake the test?  What can you do in the future to make sure you are prepared for tests?

At this point, 2nd and 3rd hours’ grades are not accurate on parent/student connect.  I am working as quickly as possible to finish grading and updating.  For my 4th hour students, grades are done and accurate.

Homework:

  1. Read for 20 minutes
  2. Finsih your Personal Narrative POA
  3. MobyMax-Language: Adjectives Due Friday

Tuesday, February 7, 2017

In Language Arts today the students began generating ideas for a personal narrative topic they would be interested in writing about.

They also spent time looking at the cover and reading the back of Tuck Everlasting.  The students then made predictions about what they think the novel might be about.

In Language Arts today the students spent time practicing using the five senses to enhance their knowledge of adjectives.

The students were also introduced to narrative writing.  Over the next two weeks, the students will be using their Daily 5 time to write and revise a personal narrative.

Lastly, the students participated in an activity to introduce them to Tuck Everlasting.  We will begin reading the novel either Wednesday or Thursday of this week.  Students who purchased or already own their own copy of the book are encouraged to start bringing it to class tomorrow. For students who do not own their own copy, a school copy will be provided.

I am still in the process of updating grades.  The tests are graded but cannot be returned since there are still two students who need to take it today.  My goal is to have grades completely updated by this Friday.

Have a great evening!

The students also submitted their interactive notebooks for grading.  I will do my best to have grading done as quickly as possible but please assume grades are inaccurate until Monday or Tuesday of next week as we will have four big grades being entered over the course of the next week.

Have a great evening!
