In Language Arts today the students finished testing!  Students who finished early were given the opportunity to go on MobyMax and work on their 60 minutes of homework in Reading Skills Literature.

I will be in a meeting out of the building during the first half of the day tomorrow.  I spent the last few minutes of class today teaching the students about Read Theory.  This is another website we will be using to help us read informational texts at our various reading levels.  The students will be expected to complete 3 quizzes per week.  They will be due at the end of class on Friday just like MobyMax.  This is also something they can pick during Daily 5.  As long as they are staying focused, they should be able to complete all three quizzes within 20 or 25 minutes which is equivalent to one round of Daily 5.  If your child is coming home with a lot of MobyMax and ReadTheory to do on Thursday nights, that means they are not using their class times wisely.

Tomorrow with the substitute the students will be given the chance to go into ReadTheory and practice.  They should be able to finish all three quizzes for the week during the time they are given.  Students who finish early will be given time to work on MobyMax.  Since I will not be in the building for a large part of the day, I will not be posting to the blog tomorrow which is why I included information about tomorrow’s class in this blog post.

Try to stay cool!

Homework:

  2. 3 Quizzes on ReadTheory Due Friday

Hello!

I will not be posting to the blog very much this week since we will spend most of it NWEA testing.  I just wanted to create this post so families knew where we are at this week.

Students finished their presentations yesterday.  I will be posting grades for Summer Learning today.

The students will spend a majority of the week NWEA testing.  When they finish, I am allowing them to work on MobyMax or read their good fit book.

I have officially assigned MobyMax as homework.  Each week the students will be expected to complete 60 minutes of MobyMax.  I will rotate the area that they are expected to be working in.  This week, it is vocabulary.

Have a great evening!

Homework:

  1. 60 minutes on MobyMax Vocabulary Due Friday at 3:05 pm

In Language Arts today the students spent time presenting their Summer Learning to their classmates.  We did not finish presentations today but we will definitely be able to finish over the weekend.  For this reason, I will not be posting grades until everyone has finished presenting so that everyone can get their grades at the same time.

The students were also taken to the library for 6th Grade Library Orientation.  They are officially allowed to check out books from our school library so everyone should have a good fit book at this point!

Have a great weekend!

Homework:

  1. Bring your Summer Learning Presentation on Monday if you did not present today
  2. Bring a good fit book for Language Arts

In Language Arts today the students spent time discussing what read to self looks like in our class.  In order to prepare for library orientation tomorrow, we also discussed what a good fit book is and how they pick one.  Starting Monday, students will be expected to have their good fit book with them each day in class.  After library orientation tomorrow, the students will be allowed to check out a book.

The students also spent time signing up for all of the technology we will use in Language Arts this year.  Throughout the next couple of weeks, the students will learn to use each website as it is introduced into the curriculum.

I was so happy to get to meet so many families at Open House last night!  If you were unable to make it, I look forward to meeting you at conferences in November.  I will be sending out the first Remind tonight about Summer Learning which is due tomorrow.  If you do not receive a text from me, you are not signed up for my Remind. Many parents requested the weekly homework slide be added to the blog.  I have attached it to this post for your convenience.  Your children are not expected to be doing all of this at once, we will build up to it over the course of the next few weeks.  I will post to the blog as we add something new.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today the students spent time discussing what Daily 5 CAFE looks like. We also created the strategy board in our classroom.  Once students take the NWEA assessment, we will use that information to determine appropriate strategies for each student.

The students also spent time signing up for all of the technology we will be using in our classroom. As we use the sites, we will spend more time learning how they work.

All students were sent home with a movie permission slip.  This needs to be signed and returned by Friday.  This gives students permission to watch PG movies at school if we are having a school reward or relating it to something we have learned in class.  This does not happen too often.

Lastly, tonight is Open House from 6:00 to 7:30. Please try to arrive on time since families will be following the students’ schedules.  Each child has been sent home with their schedule today for families to use tonight.  I look forward to meeting all of you!

Have a great evening!

Homework:

  1. Summer Learning Due Friday
  2. Book Presentations on Friday

In Language Arts today the students finished organizing their interactive notebooks. They also spent time creating an acrostic poem in class so we could learn more about each other.  Students who did not finish the rough draft are required to complete it at home for homework.  Students who did finish their rough drafts will put the finishing touches on tomorrow in class.  If a student chose to print the picture to go with their poem instead of drawing it, they will need to do it at home tonight as homework.

Tomorrow is Open House from 6:00-7:30.  A schedule of each students’ classes will be sent home with them tomorrow for families to use at Open House.  Please try not to bring children to Open House unless it is absolutely necessary since seating in the classrooms is limited.

Have a great evening and I look forward to meeting families tomorrow night!

Homework:

  1. Finish your acrostic poem rough draft and print your picture
  2. Summer Learning Due Friday-We will present one of the books we read over the summer with our visual in class on Friday

Monday, September 11, 2017

In Language Arts today the students spent time reflecting on the team building activities from Friday.

The students also spent time in class setting up their interactive notebooks for Language Arts.  If they did not finish, they will be given time in class tomorrow to finish.

Please don’t forget that Open House is this Wednesday.  I look forward to seeing all of our families.  Students are not required to be there, please only bring them if there is a special circumstance because we will not have enough room for all of the parents and students.

Have a great evening!

Homework:

  1. Summer Learning Due Friday
  2. Book Talk Presentations on Friday-Only present one book you read this summer-not three.

Welcome to Mrs. Bailey’s blog!  I will use this blog to communicate with families about what takes place in our classroom each day.  I will also attach copies of materials given out in class when I can and post important upcoming dates that relate to our class.

If you comment on my blog, I can see it but I do not respond due to the privacy of students and families since this blog is not private.  If you have a question or concern, please feel free to email me. My email address will be sent home with students during the first week of school.

Please make sure you have completed 480 minutes in MobyMax, your three index cards on the books you read this summer, the collage, and the book talk you will be presenting in class.  These will be treated as summative grades meaning they will be graded as if they were a test or a quiz. These assignments will be due September 15th.

I look forward to meeting all of my new students next week and their families at Open House on the 13th!

In Language Arts today the students spent time reflecting on their year in Language Arts.  They reflected on how their reading and writing skills have grown over the course of the school year and what they can do in 7th grade to continue to be successful.

The students also spent time practicing their Summer Learning by logging in through Clever and looking at the various icons they can use.

All students were sent home with their portfolios today.  This includes their writing pieces throughout the school year.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!
