In Language Arts today the students spent time talking about the Greek and Latin roots, “meter” and “therm”.

The students also spent time in class taking their Grammar Quiz.

I will be spending most of the day tomorrow grading and I will definitely have grades updated to reflect what students turned in for Marking Period 3.

In Language Arts today the students spent time on a characterization CER.  They chose a character from “The Prince and the Pauper” and described him or her.

We also spent time reviewing for our Grammar Quiz tomorrow.

Lastly, the students spent time in class working on their assignments that are due tomorrow.

In Language Arts today the students began to learn about characterization.  We discussed what it means to describe a character and which elements of their persona we could use to help us describe them.

The students were also given time in class to work on their brochure project and review for their Grammar Test on Thursday. I have attached instructions to the Brochure Project to this blog post.

Today in Language Arts the students continued to learn about how to properly use quotation marks by editing practice sentences. We will be taking our last grammar quiz of the year this Thursday!

The students also spent time in class discussing figurative language in The Prince and the Pauper.

Lastly, the students spent time in the library since today was our scheduled library time.  The students were encouraged to get a good fit book they could use for their one-pagers and read over the break. One Pagers 7 and 8 are the last two of the year and will be due on Thursday, June 14th which is the last day of school.

At this point, I have graded all of the assignments that have been turned in on time.  I will now begin working on grading the late assignments. I will have grades updated as quickly as possible!

In Language Arts today the students participated in a rainbow write activity where they worked together to write a CER on the theme of “The Prince and the Pauper”. Each person was responsible for writing one sentence of a CER and connecting it to the person who wrote the sentence before them.

The students also spent time reviewing the rules of quotation marks with their classmates.

I will do my best to have grades updated with late assignments to the best of my ability but I do not anticipate that grades will be accurate until Monday or Tuesday of next week. Hang in there, I promise I will get caught up!

In Language Arts today the students finished acting out “The Prince and the Pauper.” We also spent time adding events to the climax, falling action, and resolution of our pyramid.

Additionally, the students spent time editing apostrophes in sentences.

The end of the marking period is one week from today.  I am allowing all students to turn in any assignment from this marking late until 3:05 tomorrow afternoon. I do not take points off of late work.

Today in Language Arts the students spent time acting out scenes four, five, and six of “The Prince and the Pauper”.  While we acted, we analyzed the events within the story and the characters.

The students also spent time looking at the rules for apostrophes. We will be applying these rules during practice tomorrow in class.

In Language Arts today the students spent time acting out scenes two and three of “The Prince and the Pauper”.  We also began analyzing the characters, both internally and externally.

The students also spent time in class today practicing statements with commas.  We discussed and reviewed how to use commas correctly.

Today in Language Arts the students spent time acting out scene one of The Prince and the Pauper.  We also reviewed the pyramid of action and discussed the exposition of the play.

The students also spent time in class talking about the rules of using commas.

Test retakes are scheduled for tomorrow at 7:20 and 3:00 the students were reminded about this last week as well as in class today.  If students did not sign up, they will not be allowed to retake the test.  Any student who does not bring the written portion of the test will not be eligible for the retake.

Please remember the end of the marking period is next THURSDAY. It is not Friday because we are beginning our Spring Break. That means all late work must be turned in by this Friday.  I do not take points for turning in assignments late.  If a student completes a late assignment that was given on the computer, they will need to notify me in class or I will not know they have made up their late work.
