Congratulations!  All of our students have officially completed the first full day of middle school!

Over the past two days, we have spent a lot of time going over procedures and practicing opening lockers.  We have spent time going over what to do in case of an emergency, taking school and classroom tours, getting to know me, and getting to know each other.

I will be giving out our team syllabus and suggested school supplies tomorrow. On Thursday, students will be signing up for the technology they need to use in our classroom.  One of the systems that I use is Remind 101.  The students have been asked to bring their phone to class on Thursday ONLY so I can help them sign up.  I will also send home directions for families so they can join our system too.

Thank you very much for sharing your children with me!  It is going to be a GREAT school year at Bryant Middle School!

HAPPY LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Enjoy your summer!  I want everyone to have lots of fun, make memories, and spend time with friends and family!

You will also need to work on your Summer Learning. This is a requirement for ALL students who will be attending Dearborn Public Schools during the 2018-2019 school year. I have attached the links to the letter from the district for all middle school students, the Book Talk directions and rubric that all students must use, the 7th grade Language Arts recommended book list for my now former students, and the 6th grade Language Arts recommended book list for my new students.  Remember, all students must read AT LEAST 3 books of THEIR CHOOSING over the course of the summer.  The book list can give you ideas but if there is something else you would like to read that will challenge you, please feel free.  Graphic novels will NOT be accepted as one of the books on the list.

I have also attached the recommended supply list for my class for anyone who would like to get their school supplies before school starts.

I look forward to seeing everyone in the fall!

During Language Arts today the students spent time watching the movie “The Giver.”

Tomorrow students who are eligible will be going to Levagood.  Alternate activities have been planned for students who are coming to school but not going to the Levagood. For this reason, I will not be posting to the blog tomorrow.

Have a fantastic evening!

In Language Arts today the students were given their writing portfolios back. They then completed their Portfolio Passport where they reflected on their reading and writing throughout the school year.  The looked at what they have learned and done well this year as well as what they still need improvement on.

I will definitely have grades updated by the end of the day tomorrow but I will not finish before then.

Have a great evening!

In Language Arts today the students spent time taking their chapters 16 through 23 quiz.  When they finished, they turned in all of their assignments for the rest of the year.  I will do my best to have grades updated as quickly as possible but I definitely won’t finish before Tuesday.  Please do not email me about grades before Wednesday, they will not be right before then.

The students were also given the directions for Summer Learning from their 7th grade teachers.  They are required to read 3-5 books over the course of the summer and present one to their new Language Arts class in the Fall.  They were given a list of recommended books but they can read anything as long as it is in their lexile range.  Graphic Novels can be read for fun but do not count as one of the three. I will attach all Summer Learning requirements to the blog post on the last day of school.  Hard copies were given to the students today.  Copies will be posted to the Bryant website too.

We are officially done with homework for the year!

Have a fantastic weekend!

In Language Arts today the students participated in the Memory Transmission Activity. Our classroom was transformed into The Annex where The Giver works.  The students worked in small groups and rotated in stations analyzing various memories of events that have taken place within our own society.  We discussed whether each event was important for people to remember and why events throughout history are important in general. We then used this information to form opinions about whether or not the citizens of Jonas’s community should have their own memories.

Block Two also had a pizza party today as a celebration for earning the most points on Read Theory throughout the course of the school year! Any student who was fasting was sent home with their pizza slices to enjoy this evening.
