In Language Arts today the students learned the meaning of the root word, “bio”.

They spent the remainder of class taking their grammar quiz.  During the quiz, Block One had a glitch.  I have adjusted the scores for that class accordingly and the problem has been resolved. My other two classes did not have problems. I was disappointed in the amount of students who did not take their interactive notebook home to study for this quiz.  I have been telling the students about it for a week and stating that they needed to use the information in their interactive notebooks to study. Students who followed the directions did well while those who chose not to follow the directions did not.  There will not be retakes on this quiz because the retake was built in.  Every student was given three chances to answer each question correctly while taking the quiz.

Additionally, I gave my classes thirty glue sticks today since it is the beginning of a new month.  There are nine left in the glue box.  This is absolutely absurd.  I will not be replenishing the glue box for the remainder of the year.  All of my students are expected to bring their own glue to class.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

In Language Arts today the students learned about the root, aud/audi, which means to hear.

The students also finished presenting their folktale projects. I have updated grades to reflect the scores of these projects.

For extra credit over the weekend, students are being given the opportunity to take the practice ELA MSTEP online. Here’s how you complete it:

  1. Go to the Dearborn Public Schools Page
  2. Click on “Student Portal”
  3. In the center under MSTEP, click “MSTEP Testing Portal”  Here is the URL: https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/
  4. Click “Online Tools Training”
  5. Click “Sample Items Set” and select “Grade 6” then “English Language Arts”
  6. Type in the Username and Password EXACTLY AS YOU SEE THEM! username: ela6samp   password: test1234
  7. Take the practice test. When you are done, take a screenshot on your computer or phone and email it to me. You could also print the final page. You will know when you are done because a black rectangle will pop up congratulating you for finishing and telling you you are done. I will not accept anything else to receive extra credit. BE SURE NOT TO CLICK OUT OF THE PRACTICE BEFORE TAKING A PICTURE! This is OPTIONAL and worth five summative points of extra credit. The test will reset if you start it then try to finish it at another time so make sure you start it when you have some time to finish the whole thing at once. The amount of time it takes is different for everyone, the longer you take to think about the answers to questions, the longer the practice will take. Make sure you practice playing with the tools at the top too!

Have a great weekend!
