For the past two days in LA, the students have been focusing on reviewing Daily 5.  Yesterday the students discussed what their jobs are while they are working on their writing and working with words.  We also discussed the role of the teacher during this time.  We practiced doing word work by identifying words we do not know in the story, “Eleven,” found in our textbooks.  The students worked together to create a class list of all of the interesting words and the words they did not know.  Tomorrow they will build our first Word Wall.  I will take pictures of it and post it to the blog when it is completed.

Today the students went to the library.  Before they went, we discussed how we select Good Fit Books through the IPICK acronym.  Upon returning from the library, the students were given time to practice read to self.  We also built up or CAFE board for Daily 5.  We discussed that our goal for this year is to master as many Daily 5 strategies as we can between now and the end of the year.  We will begin identifying individual goals tomorrow.

Progress Reports went home today.  Please ask your child if they got one.  If students have a C- or lower in any of their core classes, they will receive and individual grade report from that class.  If your child did not bring home a progress report, this means that they have a C or better in 6th Grade LA.  At this point, the grades on student connect have been updated.  Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns.  If your child received a progress report, you do not need to sign and return it.  It is yours to keep.  Grades are constantly changing in this class.  Please make sure you are checking parent connect so we can work together to help your child be successful this year.

Have a fantastic evening!
