In Language Arts today we began to discuss point of view. The students were introduced to the concepts of first, second, third person limited, and third person omniscient points of view. They were given a note sheet to help them determine point of view. We glued this into our interactive notebooks. We also looked at a powerpoint about point of view. I have attached the powerpoint to this blog post. Additionally, we read the poem, “On Turning Ten,” with a partner and determined what the point of view is. When the students returned to their seats, I asked them to point to the part of the poem that helped them figure out what the point of view was and why this helped them. We discussed that when we use specific parts of our reading to figure out something that goes along with the story, this is called using specific evidence from the text to support our thinking. We will be working on this skill frequently throughout the course of the school year.
