In Language Arts today the students began by doing Sustained Silent Reading (SSR). We will start every class period with this on Mondays, Wendnesdays, and Fridays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the students will have the choice between reading their good fit book or practicing their informational text skills on Read Theory. On Fridays, all students will read their good fit book.

Today the students were assigned homework on Read Theory. Each week, the students will be expected to pass five Read Theory quizzes. They will be given time in class on Mondays and Wednesdays to work on this but if they do not finish, it is homework due on Friday. This will be worth ten formative points each week for a total of 100 points per marking period. I will also be keeping track of the knowledge points they earn by passing quizzes. Whichever class has the most knowledge points at the end of the school year will win a pizza party! Whoever has the most knowledge points in each class will get to have their name on the board in the classroom for the week.

After SSR, the students participated in a book swap activity. During this activity, they previewed a book of their choice at a station, shared what they learned about it with their group, and wrote down the title of the book if it sounded like something they would be interested in reading this year.

We rotated to six different stations throughout the class period so they should have many ideas about books they want to read in class. Our first library check out day is next Monday.

Have a great evening! Don’t forget tomorrow is picture day!
