Welcome back! We are in the home stretch of the school year and time is moving quickly! We are starting a new marking period which means students are allowed to turn in three late assignments between now and the end of the school year without losing points. All assignments for the year will be due by Friday, June 7th. No assignments will be accepted the last week of the school year.
In Language Arts today the students started a new unit. We will be focusing on folktale analysis over the course of the next couple of weeks. Today we learned about common folktale elements and the various types of folktales.
The students also spent time in class reading and talking to the text for a few poems. Later in the week, we will be using these poems for a writing assignment. If they did not finish this in class, it was assigned as homework.
Have a great evening!
Homework:
- Read for 20 minutes
- 5 Read Theory Quizzes due Friday
- Moby Max: Punctuation due Friday
This is a very busy week at Bryant so I have a few announcements to add to today’s blog post.
- Math and Literacy Night is Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30pm. This is a fun event for the whole family filled with stations to promote reading and math. One of the stations is called Read Aloud. At this station, sixth graders are invited to read the personal narrative they wrote in Language Arts last marking period to an audience. This is worth ten extra credit points in Language Arts. Students must sign up in advance in order to attend so that their essay can be pulled from their file and because there are a limited amount of time slots available. The sign up sheet is on the bulletin board outside of Mrs. Dailing’s room. Even if you do not want to read your essay, you can still come and have fun with your family and friends!
- Parent Teacher Conferences are Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30pm. These will NOT be student-led. Ms. Taha, Ms. Jones, Mr. Peterson, and I will be calling home to speak with families we would like to meet with. All families are welcome to attend, even if they don’t receive a phone call however, the conference is not required. Once again, the families we need to speak with will be contacted prior to conferences. Conferences are individual and no time is scheduled so families may be waiting in line to speak with teachers for a while. Ms. Taha and I will be meeting in her room to speak with families about Math and Language Arts. This is room 41.
- The Bryant Book Fair will be taking place this week. My Block Three students will be going during class tomorrow. Blocks One and Two will be attending on Thursday. The fair will be open during Math and Literacy Night as well as Parent Teacher Conferences.
