In Language Arts today the students were given time to work on the guided questions for chapters 9-12 in their small groups. The students also participated in a Sensory Imagery Activity where they had to use their five sense to come up with imagery for snow/sledding and sunshine/sunburn which are the first few memories that are transmitted to Jonas in The Giver. Anything that was not completed by the end of class was assigned as homework and is due on Tuesday.
We also went to the auditorium during class and participated in the Ceremony of 12. The students were each given a number, called on stage, and presented with their Life Assignment based on the survey they took on Tuesday. Afterwards, we discussed the feelings the characters in the book must have had based on our own feelings during the ceremony. We also discussed how it felt to have everything chosen for them like the characters in the book do.
Have a fantastic, safe weekend!
