I apologize for not posting to the blog yesterday. I was sick and unable to come to school.
Over the past two days, the students have continued to learn about text features by finishing their activity from Friday.
The students were also taken to the library yesterday for their first book check out. At this point, every students should have a chapter book to read. If they don’t, they must get one tonight for homework. All students are expected to be reading for 100 minutes at home each week. (20 minutes/5 nights per week.) They are expected to read two chapters books by the end of the marking period and complete a One-Pager for each one. The directions to the first One-Pager were sent home today and have been attached to this blog post. The second One-Pager will be given out in two weeks.
With the remainder of class time, the students read a NewsELA article about cell phones in classrooms. The students talked about the text features within the text as well as words they did not know. Then, they read the article with an elbow partner and talked to the text while they read. If they did not finish reading by the end of class, it was assigned at homework.
Homework:
- Read for 20 minutes
- Finish reading your NewsELA Article and talking to the text in blue
- Book Talk due Monday
- Moby Max due Friday, October 4th
